well, ive been trying to figure it out for awhile now. it's only when my check engine light is on. so here is my newbioe question, what are many of the reasons for causing to run rich? ive checked for leaks (air) but i dont see any. it's getting so bad now, if i leave it at an idle. like 5 minutes later ill come back and there will be black specs and crap on the ground by the exhaust. and gas mileage is HORRIBLE now. the needle goes down for every trip i take. DANGIT, this sucks.

normally i would think a vacumme leak would cause you to run lean(more air in the system than what mas reads). have you checked the obvious. tuneup, air filter. how about bad fuel pressur reg. or bad injectors. sorry i miss all your other posts so i may be being redundant have you gotten the code from the check e light

Running pig rich + bad gas mileage = dead front O2 sensor. Also a tune-up should be put in schedule...

Question: If the O2 gauage seems to be bouncing along nicely, how can you tell if you need a new sensor? Or do you?

If the led on the A/F gauge it's bouncing around nicely, it means that your O2 sensor is working perfectly.;)

Im not sure if with the A/F gauge works off of the first or the second O2 sensor, but wichever it is , the other could be bad.
Just an idea.

Like Gopherhog said: heavy foot...

Also it could mean that your car needs a nice tune-up.

It works off the front (upper) O2 on 2G's.

1. New plugs and plug wires
2. New fuel filter
3. New air filter

Fuel pressure doesn't have anything to do with this...

What would the typical 1G DSM 'tune up' consist of?

I've got a new fuel filter ready, I need to get an O2 sensor... but what else?

Thanks
