What kind of drivetrain does your DSM have?

I've included "AWD w/ LSD" as some DSMs had LSD on the rear diff. as an option.

Post here if you have something "unusual" like a welded diff. or the like. :)

easiest way is to look at your rear diff from the back of the car. should have LSD written on it. you might have to wipe off dust and dirt covering it though

No, not all AWD dsm have a rear LSD. Only on some models.. most of the 1G have them and less of the 2G have them, later years thou

AWD with LSD in the early cars was dependant on if the car had ABS. Early ABS did not get along with Viscous LSD's.

I bought a 92 Talon TSI AWD for parts. It came with ABS, I pulled a LSD 4 bolt off of it. My Talon is also 92 TSI, with NO ABS and it also came with LSD 4 bolt. So the moral of the story is that I have had 2 March of 92 TSIs with and without ABS and both came with LSD.

My car also has (well, had) ABS, and it's on its second LSD rear end. I took it out after the second rear had been in for about 6 months (about 900 miles on the car) and I've used it a lot. Never had any problems...

interesting. What i remember reading stated that the early 1G's did not have ABS with LSD is because the ABS computers could not handle the flucations in driveline rpm. But the problem was addressed and fixed. Not that ABS is a solution. I have yet to drive a vehicle with ABS that braked better than a non ABS car.

Well, go take a Z06 for a test drive on a snowy day. Stop on the side of the road somewhere (jam on the brakes, if you'd like) and pull the ABS fuse. Then see which you prefer. ;) 1g DSM ABS is crap, but engineers have been doing some thinking these past 9 years...

You just haven't driven the right cars then. Most ABS equippd cars stop faster than non ABS cars. The last gen Vipers could not even brake with a Celica GTS but now that they have ABS the viper is finally on par with the braking of a Porsche and the ZO6.

There's a rebuild kit that's ~$140. Beyond that you'd need spacers to get the clearance of the new input shaft right, and there's an additional pinion that you'll most likely wind up needing. The pinion's ~$60 and the spacers are something like $2.30 a piece.

yes as i recall when they first had the abs with the lsd, then had problems so they took the lsd out for a couple years (or some amount of time 1-2) then got it to work so they put it back on. i read that a while ago some where on clubdsm not sure where though.

My bad. I didn't realize the LSD you were referring to in your original post was from a 3-bolt rear end. Hell I didn't even know there were 3-bolt LSD DSM's. I've always heard there weren't bud never owned a 90-91 myself so I wouldn't know from first-hand experience. I thought maybe you had done the 4-bolt swap sometime in the past. I have a 90 awd swaped to a 4 bolt LSD, I have a locked center diff. and a switch on the fly awd to fwd. In any gear or speed I can put it in fwd shifting from 2nd/awd to 3rd/fwd.
