Does anybody know of any CARB legal turbo-kits for the 2G N/T? Or do you know know if Hahn or Star are going to make there's CA legal? Thanks.

I don't know of any other companies that make turbo kits other than HRC and STAR.As for the CARB legal side.I would contact them for more info.I once owned a 97 GS,so I know what your talking about.

Well, there is a third kit coming out (other than HRC and Star): http://www.newedgeracing.com/nestore/mitsu_custom_garret_turbo_kit_step1.asp

My friend told me about it and it seems to be very customizable and a good value. Not sure when it will be all done and not sure about the CARB information. Contacting the sellers would probably be your best bet right now.

Yep, I heard from another 2gnter about the kit, who heard from the owner of the company (new edge racing). It is roughly the same kit as the star, only it has a new, much better manifold, and a more efficient FMIC. (standard for stage 2).
This kit is completely customizable..the only part that you can't control looks to be the manifold and the downpipe. Everything else is interchangable.
Hahn claims that their kits are street legal everywhere but CA. The disclaimer at the bottom of their page reads: "Some products listed are legal for sale or use in CA only for racing vehicles which may never be driven on a public highway."
Though plenty of people living in CA have the kits, so it might not be too big a deal. I would agree with Jon that it would be best to ask the companies themselves. (though star has no website or information, so I don't know how you could go about asking them.) The best website they have is http://www.turbogs.com Email Wyatt, he might be able to help you out.

Hope this helps some.

No one I know of that has either a star or Hahn kit has failed the sniffer.
I guess it depends on how thorough your test station is, under hood inspection and such.
Here they don't look under the hood, places like Calli. do.

Have to add that the kit on new edge racing is the same as all the Star stuff except that they sell it piece by piece instead of a whole kit. You could always buy the Star manifold by itself, and all the options available at New Edge, star had already had, it's nothing new.

Hey this is Shaun Frank Owner of New Edge Racing...

I just want to clear some thing up about my turbo kit for the 1995-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS/GS 420A Motor before this turns into a ** ADMIN EDIT**vs. New Edge Racing Kits. Before I start stating facts I would like to defuse any pre convinced notions on the similarities between my kits and the ** ADMIN EDIT** kits. One this kit is still being prototyped at this time the URL listed above in not a public URL it is there to help up setup our pricing for the resale of these kits. Two when most people go and buy a turbo kit for a non-turbo car the turbo charging knowledge is little to none with having to piece together information to learn what is best for them, like I said this apply to most people not all, I know because being a long time non-turbo eclipse owner I did the same, there for I can relate and answer most questions you have. Three pricing has been the biggest concern when it has come to turbo charging a NT eclipse, ** ADMIN EDIT**Four my kits are laid out for you the buyer to build your kit piece by piece so you can see every option available to you and so you can build a kit to meet your budget. Five we use all high quality no parts you have never heard about and question the maker. ** ADMIN EDIT**

Ok let’s start from the top.
(At no time am I saying that my kit is better I am just listing my review of all of these items listed)

Manifold:
** ADMIN EDIT**
NEW EDGE RACING:
Manifold is Tubular there for incensing airflow. The turbo sits on the number 3 and 4 runners for optimal performance and the wastegate flange is between the number 1 and 2 runners for optimal performance.

Turbo:
** ADMIN EDIT**
NEW EDGE RACING:
We promote every Turbonetics turbocharger and option that will fit out current manifold there for giving you all your options and a chance to stay with in your budget or performance needs.

Wastegate:
** ADMIN EDIT**
NEW EDGE RACING:
We offer many wastegate options from Greddy, HKS, and turbonetics and very soon more. Once again giving you more options and a chance to gain performance and save money.

Fuel Pressure Riser:
** ADMIN EDIT**
NEW EDGE RACING:
We offer the Vortech Standard 12:1 FPR and the Vortech Super Adjustable FMU for the serious tuners.

Fuel Pump:
HRC:
** ADMIN EDIT**
NEW EDGE RACING:
We use the Walbro 255lph High Performance Fuel Pump it’s a direct in tank replacement for the FWD eclipse. They’re for supplying ample fuel.

Downpipe:
** ADMIN EDIT**
NEW EDGE RACING:
Once more we give you options like down pipes with flex sections for street use and down pipes with no flex section for race use and soon downpipes with O2 eliminators.

Intercooler:
** ADMIN EDIT**
NEW EDGE RACING:
Our intercoolers are made by none other then Spearco custom made for us, who has a strong name in import performance:
http://www.spearcointercoolers.com/racers.html
We will be offering up to 10 different configurations and sizes to match the specs of Apexi, Greddy, and HKS intercoolers, Also Liquid to Air setups for hard core racers.

Just about everything else will be the same as the STAR kit Eg. IC Piping, Fuel Cut Defender, and Stainless Steel Oil Lines.

New Edge Racing, please read the DSMTalk vendor policy:
http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/announcement.php?forumid=24

I understand that you are giving your opinion of these products but since you DO have something to sell, your reviews may seem like self-promotion and therefore would not be allowed on DSMTalk. Please edit your post to comply with the policy.

Thank you 97TSiAWD for the heads up regarding New Edge Racing's post and the Vendor Policy.

FYI - I deleted some info at the end of the post that was really just sales content and had nothing to do with the thread's topic. ***New Edge, please refrain from reviewing other vendor's products as we have other vendors that participate in our forums and flame wars certainly could break out if one vendor is critical of another.*** We left most of your post however due to the obvious time you spent offering technical information which will hopefully benefit our users.

Sorry about that I tryed to stay with in the lines and still give a informing post.

Ill be more slective in my wording next time.

but like I stated before I have had hands on experiences with both kits and I was giving my opinion based on thoes experiences and not for the gain of self-promotion of my product or to take any shots at other vendors.

Thanks
Shaun Frank

** ADMIN EDIT - I re-edited and removed all direct comparisons to the products of other vendors. I decided it is just not fair to allow direct comparisons by a vendor without allowing a rebuttal, and that could start a flame war. I will be modifying our vendor policy to reflect this. Thanks. **

Ok, i will reword a few things that were said to be fair, most of the basic parts located on that site are the same as are included in another vendors kit.

Also some of the options are a choice, (ie. wastegates, some of the turbo options etc. ) but for the average joe looking to buy something that just comes with everything you need, will go by that other vendors kit. Why? because they have the option of getting it all in a kit and not worrying weather or not they are buying the right wastegate or turbo for their application.
I was not in any way saying anyone elses parts were better, just the convenience.
