View Full Version : adustable fuel regulator

I installed an RPW adustable FPR on my Spyder. The
peice comes with a fuel regulator adapter so you can
remotely install the FPR and a gauge. Currently I am running at 41PSI
(stock is 38-40 at idle). This regulator supposedly gives
you a 1.7:1 fuel to air ratio for quicker injector response or
the ability of mimicking bigger injectors. I am monitoring performance with a digital Zeitronix a/f meter. I may be able to run higher pressure and lean this out by backing out the MAS
screw or a AFC. I decided to get this so I can adjust once
I get headers and my 1G TB setup..

*look for the engine pic with the fuel gauge

After playing with my fuel pressure +/- 5 PSI stock value of 38, I
could tell that I was running way to rich and the 1.7:1 ratio actually hurt my performance. Tried reducing my pressure to
35PSI but it still made my car accelerate very unpredictably.
It didn't accelerate in a smooth rate even though it idled ok. My
O2 sensor clearly showed I was running overly rich no matter how
low I ran the pressure. Didn't like the fact that I may be reducing
the injector spray pressure running reduced pressures either.
I sent my adj. FPR back and installed an S-AFC instead.
This was a better move as I can use the stock air/fuel ratio
and pressure and can adjust everything in a much more controlled manor. Pocket logger on the way...

FWIW, your results are exactly what I would have expected. The adjustable FPR's out there that increase pressure at a rate higher than 1:1 are a band-aid for people who don't want to buy proper fuel management and larger injectors. Real popular with the honda guys. That should tell you something.
Also note that the base fuel pressure on the Spyder is 48psi with the vacuum line removed. Thus, it runs around 40-42 at idle, and mine runs up to 60psi under 10psi boost.

Who you callin a Honda guy? :D Live an learn I say. Yea, it
didn't take me long to read my sensors and see what was going on. I checked the pressure by the manual with the vacuum line blocked and at idle with vacuum. I have been able to lean out my WOT some with my AFC with some gain ,but
I'm waiting for my palm logger to tune via timing and fuel trims.
Should be more noticeable once I get my 60mm TB and ported intake installed..
nuff for now.

hey spyderdude24, nice car by the way. i was wondering if you have a wiring diagram for the s-afc for the 4g64

oh and one more question. Your site says that you use the bbk tb for the 2g turbo, are you running into any problems using this tb? is cruise control and the throttle position sensor compatible with our cars? and also how did you address the the vacuum lines on the throttle body?

For the AFC on a 2G 4G64 ECU, I used the following:
ECU pin 25 - AFC power
ECU pin 26 - AFC ground (brown and black ~10cm apart)
ECU pin 58 - AFC RPM
ECU pin 84 - AFC throttle
*ECU pin 90 -AFC airflow (there are two AFC wires for this connection since you are intercepting the airflow signal).
I can get you the actual AFC wire colors, but I'm late for
work..

Actually I don't have the BBK installed yet.. I just got my BBK and waiting for my HKS elbow to arrive. I'll let
you know how everything goes..
