Back at 165k the only reason I rebuilt the engine was because I wanted to put so "go fast goodies" in it. It was still running like a champ.

im proud to say that im at 141k and have my origional head, and every thing else. my compression is still great in all cylinders and He still makes horsepower like theres no tomarrow. but thats what you get when you buy a car from an origional owner 30s year old man. who changed oil @2500 miles and got timing done ever 50k
thanks for the space.

85K, I'm trying to keep it down though. Don't wanna break before I can go fast! (Besides, the roads suck here)
Lately I only drive about 5-10 miles a week because I live in the barracks, so I walk to work and eat at the galley (across the street). That number should go up a little when I change my front axles.

My baby is new and just rolled 132,000. Probably put 150 on her in the last couple days since i got it. Turbo is kicking strong, enough to take out several *ughh* unworthy opponents who tryed me, not naming anything (lol well maybe, hondas integra, camaro and a mustang gt). But on the serious side does any one know of common problems around my mileage? thnx and happy racing.;)

This poll should have been broke down by 1st gen cars to 2nd gen cars and that would be a better overview of a car's mileage.

Just turned 120,000 on my 95 Tsi AWD. I'm the second owner. I bought it with 110,000 miles on it.
The first owner (an exotic dancer) had all service done at the dealer(s):
New shortblock (spun balance shaft bearing 40,000 miles ago).
New transfer case.
New cylinder head 30,000 miles ago.
New transmission in May of '02
Brakes, T-belt, etc.
Since I bought it:
New IAC
New steering rack
New inner and outer tie rods
New tires
New front rotors/pads
New rear axle, wheel bearing & hub
I paid $4k for it. I put 150 miles a day on it. It hauls ass and I like my stripper car. :)

Just over 63,000 on my 91 Talon Tsi AWD.
With the other cars in my driveway, it isn't going to go up too fast in mileage. It goes out occasionally most of the year, but becomes a prime driver in the winter.
A short drive to work has helped keep the mileage down on all of my cars. Even the 96 Z-28 has only 30,000 miles.

nixem311: You are indeed a lucky person.
I have babied my Talon for nearly 13 years and am very pleased with the way it looks and runs. It is mind blowing to imagine stumbling into a car in the condition yours seems to be.
Lots of luck with it. See if you can catch up to my low mileage part time player. Chances are that you will in the next few years and will be enjoying every minute of it.

155K on my 1990 TSi AWD.
There's a 62-year old guy down the street from me who drives his 91 GST to Canal Fulton (near Canton) every weekday. (I live in Cleveland, btw). He's the original owner and he's worked in Canal Fulton since before he owned the car. He's at 394K and counting, on the original, unrebuilt engine and automatic tranny. It's starting to rust horrendously, and he says he'll drive it "until the rust becomes a safety issue." His wife says that he has only owned one other car since 1969, when he bought a new VW Karmann Ghia, drove it until the floor pans finally gave out and he bought the GST.

Yeah, pretty sure it was done right (a veteran DSMer helped me). Only did dry test.
Even though I'm close to the service limit, the real problem would be if one or two cyls is way low or way high. At 200k+ miles with no engine work, of course I'm approaching the service limit. If they based service limit on mileage, I'm sure I'd be WAY past it by now. Things *could* be worse.
Comperssion isn't everything. I've heard of a 12.xx second 1/4 mile run here in Denver on 110 compression. The less compression...the more boost you can run :D
It's my daily driver, so low compression isn't too bad. Now if I built it for a street or drag monster...that'd be a whole 'nother can o'worms.
I'll drive her 'till she can't be driven anymore...and then some :)

just thought i'd throw a line in here, i bought my car september of 03 with 171k on it, and now i have 173k, i'm 3rd owner, first owner was a grandma that just loved to go for drives, second owner wanted to be a tuner, but didnt know shit, slightly abused it, and now i have it, with a wonderful relationship. valvoline synpower flows through its veins, and even at 173k, its still sexy to me, i just have to repaint the old girl. sorry for the long post, later.

I wish I could vote twice, since I have two DSM's. Since I can't I'll cast a write in ballot: My 92 Talon has 110k miles, and my 90 Laser has 177k miles.
Despite the high mileage the body and suspension are still clean and unrusted since it's a California car. We don't have winter here, just spring, summer, fall, and February :)

I got mine from a girl I knew for 500 bucks. 90 FWD T Talon. Busted balancer shaft belt ate teeth on the timing belt and it caused a valve to get lodged in the top of piston 2.
That was 162K miles. I rebuilt it with new rod bearings, pistons, honed it out, removed the balancer shafts! (Doesnt feel uncomfortable to drive) I know have just about 166K on the body, tranny and everything but the engine.

Never any oil on the ground but there's a quarter inch think oil/dirt crust on the front of the oil pan. TRanny's starting to show some synchro wear. I installed new struts and strut mounts in August. THe front motor mount died FOR THE TRIRD TIME! So, I replaced it under warranty (thanks Auto Zone!) and filled in the empty space in the mount with 3M Windo-Weld. It's not going to break now! :D I just installed new CV axles as one of the old ones crapped on me and the other wasn't too far from gone. THe outer boots on both were split and grease was spewed everywhere. All in all, it's still a rock solid ride, it just needs some love.

156,xxx or something like that - though the PO swapped out the instrument panel with a lower mileage unit - still runs strong and drives great!
