View Full Version : Fiberglass front ends?

I have noticed that quite a few of the 9 second Honda's all have 1 piece fiberglass front ends on them but all of the top DSM's run the factory sheet metal.
Yes, I have seen some DSM's with fiberglass hoods, but that seems to be as far as they take it.

I would have to guess it is just economics. The much higher numbers of Hondas would make it more appealing to mass produce them, there just isnt that big a market for DSMs compared to Hondas.

I doubt that.. Extreme and Buschur both have the money to throw around on something like that. And its not like they buy their products from other companies, they would have it produced themselves.

I am actually heavily considering playing around with some carbonfiber. I have several textbooks on it and am getting ready to take on a small project. If there is a big enough interest and i seem to be able to produce a decent part i will make the molds out of reinforced fiberglass so i could cast alot of parts from one mold. if enough people got together you could pool up money to buy a large roll of carbon fiber/carbonfiber kevlar mix fabric and make the parts at a considerably lower price than what it takes to have one custom done at a shop or buy from extreme.

So far I haven't seen anything in hoods or even bodykits for the 1G flip-up headlights DSMs. Is there someone out there that makes some?

The only headlight conversion kit I have seen is the hella h4 upgrade. Where you replace sealed headlights with non sealed housing. You can then change the wattage of the bukbs.

Actually I beleive both Eextreme and Dave B both sell fiberglass hoods. And I think Buschur even sells a Carbon Fiber Hood. I actually know someone who has the 1g flip up headlights fiberglass hood And I was even thinking of getting one.

It was a big change for me to stop working on Civics and get an Eclipse. I thought there would be tons of parts, but almost everything I see is for 95-99 Eclipses. At least most of the engine stuff is the same. What would really be cool would be a projection headlight conversion like they have for the Miata. The one that removes the flip up part and fills em in. Well, I will check the sites you mentioned. Thanks.

Yeah, Matrix makes that conversion to, for like $15 for each lamp, and you put whatever H4 bulb you want in. I will probably go that way...although I do like the look of projections..
Oh well, not like headlights will make me go faster...

A few friends of mine race 97 talons, they have full fiberglass front ends, 4 pieces, and rear bumpers and hatches, expensive but they had given me a price list cause they want to sell the stuff, (now gotta find it). If there is anyone interested I can get them a price.
I have a 93 talon and and in the quest of lightening I looked into a one piece front end, I opted to have just the hood made, its getting done as we speak.

I'm interested.... We're talking about front-end and quarter panels all being one piece correct? I'd like to see some pics and prices.

NOPI has fiberglass fenders for 95-99 Eclipses. They are $300 per pair. They are modeled on the BMW Z3 fenders.

I've been in contact for one of the manufacturers of Honda full frontal replacement shells. They're interested and I am going to send them my fenders, hood, and facia in November. The plan is for 10 weeks from beginning to finished parts. I expect to have other information by the end of next month.

http://www.rmdsm.com/hid.htm this is RM racings real xenon gas headlight upgrade ..... $899.. think ill stick with halogen till my lotto check gets here. The fenders i was thinking of making were going to be similar to TRD's supra fender or a Ferrari F40.. having a side "exhaust" and the air flowing past will pull more air through the engine bay (well not for the F40), keeping it cooler and hopefully overcoming the air flow loss from a front mount intercooler.

One thing I was thinking about doing is to put MR-2 style side scoops behind my doors. Might look really good. And if they are done right, might even vent my rear brakes. I figure that ought to save me some weight.
Also, have either of you seen optional fenders for the 1G with flip-ups?

No they're not 1 piece front ends, they are four pieces, bumper, fenders, hood they also have rear hatches (no glass) and rocker panel skirts, I was checking out their spares last night and man they are light. The only problem I forsee is the nose is 97+ talon, I can get a complete price list for anyone who is interested, as he owns the molds and has to get them made per order.
I happen to own a shop so I suppose we can do credit card orders, dont worry I'm reputable you can check with the canadian members.
as for the 1g like I said my hood is getting done now. wont have any word on that for a week.
