View Full Version : How Many Miles on your car

I just bought my car last Dec and it had 87k miles on it. It now has 93k with more than a few of them being Autox miles. I was just reading some of the 4G63 guys boasting of the durability of their motors. Let's hear all your motor and tranny stories which should be different for the 420A.
My Talon was built in Oct 94 according to the DSM sticker on the door. I believe that this car was probably in a pretty good accident at one time. But it doesn't really rattle hardly at all. Even though there seems to be pieces missing everywhere! The engine runs real strong, I have an HKS Cat and K&N drop in, stock shocks (Original soon to be replaced) and springs. It's has a leaky Headcover gasket (very small leak), and I think that the valve seals are getting weak. When I drive the car hard as in autox it sometimes blows blue smoke out the tail pipe. This often occurs after some real hard turning and accelerating during autocross. Never on the street does it ever smoke even when I have it at WOT. Other than that I have no complaints and I love my NT and my insurance premiums! :D

So what year and how many miles are on your NT?

I bought a 90 laser in july of 2000. It's has the 2-liter engine with about 149k now. The lifters are a little noisy on cold start-ups, but otherwise I love the car. It has great acceleration for a four cylinder (maybe it only seems like that because my last car was nissan pulsar). I haven't had any problems out of the engine and as far as I can tell it hasn't even had a rebuild yet.

I had 148,000 HARD miles on my 92 Laser RS N/T before the 3rd timing belt went. It only had 15000 miles on the belt. Before it happended though, the car ran like a champ. It didn't burn any oil and it didn't even have any lifter tick. It's got 170,000 now after a rebuild. Although the body looks like hell, it runs great. I have since aquired a FWD Turbo and gave my baby to my sister.

I bought my 1995 ESi 2 years ago when it had 45k KM. Looking at the DSM sticker it is marked Nov1994 as it's manufacture date. So far to date the odometer reads 90k KM (and half of the mileage I put on it was on low profile tires).

Aside from the lifter tick, rattling squeaky heat shields of the exhaust, and bouncy suspension my car is in running order (knock on wood). Plus, it is now being forced fed air. :)

The first owner of my 93 eclipse 2.0 nt had the timing belt fail and let the car sit (in the sun...eek) for about 5 years (you can see one side is faded..the other isnt...getting it repainted soon). Then he traded it to a dealer with 30,000 miles on it and they dropped in a 92 talon motor (with a mitsu valve cover) with 70,000 mi on it.
Runs like a dream...

hey,
bought my 92 LAser RS NT with125,000 miles; added the handling goodies, some exhaust work, rims, etc. new timing belt at 180,000(it had a new stock clutch repl at 120,00)
This car is my daily driver and rally car; in 2002 I put over 75,000 miles on it without missing a single day!and, I drive it hard, and some of the rallies I run are fast, gravel performance type rallies. I have three sets of rims, stock 16' with snow stude, stock 14" with rally tires and 16" QT 10's with Ziex tires.
Last month, with 205,000 miles, the PS belt took out the Alt belt which took out the ACbelt which wrapped around the crank pulley, and somehjow got insid ethe timing belt cover, under the TB and, well, it made a lot of expensive noises.
New JDm spec motor in garage now, waiting for install; I love this car; it is fast, fun, handles like a roller coaster on tracks, and is cheap to run as well.:D

okay, new post;
My 92 Laser has at the time of this writing, 252,899 miles on it. The "new" motor has almost 100,000 on it. replaced another axle, replaced the transmission last week, runs like a scalded dog, gets nearly 30 mpg, and still gets rallied regularly!

90' talon, right now it has 191k on it, by the end of the week it'll be around 193k once I get back to hot springs. Engine runs great, doesn't like cold weather too much, altho I may have just fixed that problem, found most my vaccume hoses melted off. But it runs great, normal lifter noise, no problem making 1200 mi trips at 95 across montana. Suspension could use some work, gravel roads really do a number on it. I'm the second owner btw, had about 160k on it when I got it a few years ago

150K and rolling/rolling/rolling strong. It does burn about 1qt every 1,500 miles or so. Not sure where the oil is going - probably the piston rings letting some oil in and burnt but I don't really get much smoke. I could probably do the valve gasket again since its been a few years but I don't see much leak around that or the half-moon. I think its the stock clutch. New suspension at 100K and it handles great and is pretty solid. Just ordered some new tires so more miles to come! Great car and its going into its 1st year of being a snowboard car since my jettas tranny went last spring.

My 95 currently has 95,000 miles (152,000 km).

Still running great, (170+ psi on all cylinders) although there are 2-3 tiny rust spots starting to form. I guess that happens from driving it in the winter! :(

The car has always responded really well to mods too. 14.3 with only hard intake pipes and a MBC. Not too bad for a near stock full weight 2G.

The car still gets ALOT of looks, and nobody thinks that its a 95. (the car looks much newer, but the dsm crowd knows by looking)

'94 GS 2.0....just replaced the engine with a JDM I got on eBay at 174k....has 176k now, runs perfectly and burns NO OIL! Should be good for a long, long time again now.

An incorrectly installed broken timing belt was the culprit. It's amazing how hard it is around here to find a decent DSM mechanic who knows how to install the balance shaft belt in phase and do the timing correctly. Choose wisely and your 4G63N/T can last a LONG, LONG time.

She's started by tossin me out of 2nd gear and giving me a shimmy in 2nd when i start out and now she shimmy's in every gear and louder than can be when i am on the gas.I think the transmission is starting to let go.(thats what i get for checking the fluid after 11 years) I have a hair under 168,000 on it now ans everything is pretty much stock as the day i bought it. Original Engine, trans, clutch(well not for long i think with the tranny and clutch). She has been great.I even got 90,000 out of the first timing belt(missing 3 teeth) and my 2nd was missing 7 when it was replaced, I wonder how many i have gone now? Knock on wood! Hope to have the tranny rebuilt or clutch replaced ot whatever is making that racket(something up there) and drive it for another 11 years! Knock on wood again!

Only made it 2,500 more miles since my last post before rebuilding time. (To be fair, I was in Iraq when I posted that) 187,000 miles now, rebuilt and modded 1.8L, new clutch, rebuilt trans, new axles, struts and alot more stuff. Still smoking ricers and occasionally pulling away as I hear a turbo spool. Surprisingly, all on the original ECM!!! How long do these things last???

92 Laser, 2.0 NT 5 speed. Car is my daily driver and is used for local TSD rally events including some "brisk" gravel rallies. Wired for an Alfa Elite rally computer, and the car currently is at 306,585 miles. Bought it with 101,000 in 2001, put a JDM motor in at 200,000 miles (the "new motor" thus has over, estimated 150,000 miles) on the second set of KYB AGX shocks, third clutch (ACT 2600) and second repaint(to factory 'quartz' color) Running 17" 245x45 all around, big noisy and lovely exhaust and fast and god this car is fun to drive, especially sideways!

Mines gonna roll to 125,000 probably early tommorow morning on the way home from Columbus. The day I put plates on the car and really drove it for the first time it rolled to 100,000 within the first 3 minutes of me driving it. In the last 25,000 miles its been one of the most reliable cars i've ever seen, its only needed regular maintenence. Yeah the 420A may not be quick in its stock form....but deffinatley reliable.

I know it will go farther, the motor is just not tired at all! Of course I keep up the maintenance more than a "regular" car (i.e. oil change every 2500 with Mobil 1, plugs every 7500 miles, etc.)

Cant wait for it to hit 250,000! Im throwing a party :)

It will happen soon though, I have put 5k on it in the last two months :)
