I have size 12s and have to end up using the side of my foot....push brake mostly and blip the throttle by rolling my foot slightly onto the accelerator. I learned by doing it while just driving normal, like downshifting for a city street corner....after awhile it gets comfortable and you can do it going faster in performance driving situations. I really had to learn it when I had the gsx since the lag was so bad I needed to keep the revs up and often slip the clutch slightly coming out of corners to spool the turbo.
Just make sure that the majority of your force is on the brake...that's the most important thing and you don't want your foot to slip off in a sketchy situation.

I have size 10s and I just roll my foot to blip the throttle when downshifting. I put the inside of my foot on the brake and then the outside so that I can just roll it to hit the gas. Practice when the car is idling to get used to the feeling.

it just feels weird whenever I try. The pedals are so far apart. lol. Could it have to do with where I sit?

you use on foot to control the brake and gas at practacly the same time. Cuts down on the transistion from break to gas.

It's "HEEL"/ toe... but like everyone says, it's a misnomer.
Basically if you watch the silly Japanese ricer video drivers do it will give you the general idea of why they call it heel/toe downshifting. They actually use their heel to blip the throttle... silly.
You step on the brake with moderate or greater force (just to get the brake down far enough) with one side of your toe. Then you use the other side to blip the throttle while in neutral or when the clutch is depressed.
Practice when parked to get used to the motion. I have size 10.5s too. Heck Will, if you still don't have it by the next NYCDSM picnic, I'll show you. heh

get yourself a nice set of aftermarket pedals with a wider brake and gas pedal, at leas the gas pedal.
i have 12's and i just split the two pedals down the middle of my foot. the only car i've ever been able to heel and toe in using my actual heel and toe is my dad's full size truck, which is a little less than sporty and a lot more roomy.
