HELP Please. Balance Shaft removal kit

So I started to take apart the car to do the balance shaft removal. I got most of the stuff appart and when I took off the front cast cover now im a little confused. So the front BS comes out and so did the shaft for the oil pump attached to it. Im reading thru the VFAQ and I dont understand the part where you have to use the blockoff bearings? were do those go? On the case it self i already blocked off the balance shaft but now on the engine itself what goes were? Thanks.

Re: HELP Please. Balance Shaft removal kit

The stock bearings (in the block) for the front BS have oiling holes. Basically, if you just pulled the front shaft out and didn't do anything with the bearings (in the block,) you would lose oil pressure big time. So, what you need to do is tap both bearings out and either reuse them by rotating the oiling hole on the bearing so that it doesn't "line up" with that in the block - effectively "blocking it" or, use new bearings that dont have the oiling holes. Tap them in and you are done. The bearing on the rear shaft is fed via the rear BS shaft. It's hollow. So, eliminating the rear BS shaft and using the stubby shaft eliminates oiling to that bearing.

Re: HELP Please. Balance Shaft removal kit

You can use one of the balance shafts as a punch to press out the old bearings in the block. It works very well. All you have to do is flip the old bearings 180* to block off the passages as Mike descibed above. You can get a stubby shaft from the mitsu dealer. I cant remember the part number but I think its off a Mirage. The freeze flug is just a regular sized plug that could be found at most part stores. Make sure you either weld the plug in or use JB weld and some silicone for added protection. Be sure that when the time comes to press the freeze plug into the front case that you are VERY careful. The area where the freeze plug presses in is VERY delicate. The walls will have a tendensy to break apart. NOT GOOD! Front cases are rather pricey.

Good Luck!

Re: HELP Please. Balance Shaft removal kit

Ok, I got this kit http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/product806.html and I got the little stub and the plug that is to the left of that installed in the case already. Thing is that with the engine still in the car there is not much room to try and take out the front bearing. So what are my options here? And why is there two more bearings left in the kit? I thought that only the front bearing was to be replaced. Thanks.
