Trendwest Vacation Scam alert.

Please bear with me as I sit and type this.... I am so pissed off right now I think I may give myself an anuerism.

Back in Sept 2006, my girl and I had bought a time share package from a company called Worldmark Trendwest Resorts. We bought a package that was to cost us $695 for our honeymoon. We made monthly payments of $98.00 to this company and finished paying our honeymoon package off in January 2007. Our wedding was to be in February 2007. Well as the big day was approaching we waited for our package confirmation from Trendwest. Nothing ever came. No calls. No email. No snail mail. So I call the 'customer service' line. I use this term in its loosest of sense. We are told, "Thats they are not gonna be able to confirm our original choice of destination, San Francisco. In which we had already been assured we had a confirmation. So I ask for a refund. "Well we're gonna have to get back to you on your refund request because we don't normally issue refunds but I'll call the right person and make sure your honeymoon isn't affected.", is what I get told. A couple of days turn into 2 weeks and our wedding date passes.
I call back. "Oh I'm not sure what happened to your refund..?" is the answer I get from a supervisor named Nick. Who was in fact the very person who promised me that a refund check was being mailed out immediately. And swears this time he'll call me back tomorrow morning. Where have I heard that before?!? He claimed to never had promised to call me back and swears he said no such thing about our refund. At this point, god help me if I had been within grasping distance I would have pulled this guys larynx out thru his fuckin eye socket.
I basically am now being told that no refund will be issued as the last payment was never made, making me in violation of the original contract and voiding any and all moneys paid. omfg.
I initiate a return through my banking institution and am promised that they can and will retrieve our funds. This is the only time I've been happy with my wells fargo bank. But its gonna take up to 10 days. But whatev right? I'm getting it back. Well low and behold while checking my online banking statement today, I notice a new charge from Trendwest. in the amount of $9800. Putting my account into the red by about $-322.56. I almost collapsed. I am sure I can get it back but how does a company get away with this kind of behavior?!?
So I'm writing this in hopes of alleviating some tension/stress and to warn everyone else of this company, so that you won't find yourselves in the same boat.

Re: Trendwest Vacation Scam alert.

call again RECORD EVERY MESSAGE and then contact your local news station, go to the police, etc. Record it, without them even knowing just to catch them. My motorola can record my calls. If the call is long get some type of recording device that will record it onto tape for you. I think some answering machine systems can do it?

Re: Trendwest Vacation Scam alert.

Ive already contacted their local police and got the run around. Because its a civil matter supposedly. I've also emailed every supervisor I can at their corporate office. I'm just thinking with Spring Break coming up... more people could be taken.

Re: Trendwest Vacation Scam alert.

Honestly man, stick with the bank handling this one for you.

Banks are huge companies (duh right) What I mean is they deal with this shit all the time.

I found my self in your situation about 8 months ago, same fucking story different company than you speak of, it was simple I called BOA, filled out some forms, but by the time they got around to it, bam 7200 extra comes out, like 3 days after the first withdrawl, throwing me like a grand behind, on top of that bouncing 12 checks, making 6 bills late including my rent, cell phone, car insurance, etc etc.

You got it bad, but I got fucked.

No more than a week and a half later I check the account, and bam every dime back in plus all the return check fees compensated for and an extra 600 for making all the bills late.

It's called fraud, and banks dont play that shit, Anyways to make a long story shorter, in the end, though it may take some time, let them handle thier shiznit, thay have departments of people just sitting around waiting to catch bastards that pull this shit. Good luck man, on this one I can actually say that I'm sure you will come out on top.

Re: Trendwest Vacation Scam alert.

Oh and PS even when trying to convict somone, unless you are an officer of the state, county, etc etc, and conducting an active investigation, you cannot record someone without making them aware that they are being recorded. It's against the law and inadmissible in court

This is exactly why our judicial system is bullshit and needs to be totally overhauled.

It seems to be the best avenue to take. And you're right the bank has a whole department just for this. I am starting to feel better. But damn I thought initially I was going to go into a 'head go-pop mode'.

I hear ya, sucks when any one gets away with taking people's money and giving them nothing in return. Even worse when no kind of refund is ever reached, ESPECIALLY when law enforcement officials have been involved.

Teh Suck for sure. Good luck Chris.

Re: Trendwest Vacation Scam alert.

Sorry to hear that man. Last night I had a meeting with trendwest. I'm said no to everything. I'm so glad I saw this now. They told me the same thing as you. If i pay 98 a month for 6 months I can decide on a vacation and then after that decide if I want to purchase a time share or not. I said no and they of course try to keep tellin me good shit. Well finally the guy acted all put out and said ok.

They make it sound so nice and legit. The locations are awesome. I'd probably have to talk to somebody how had a time share and could tell me how it all worked and if they really used it or not. I've heard it's awesome and I've heard it's a scam. Glad to hear your side of the story and I hope you get all your money back man.

I thought the law was that only one person involved with the situation has to know. Which could be the recorder.

If what you say is true then I cant see a reason why the police should have any fucking right to record me if I cant record them. thats bullshit.

Re: Trendwest Vacation Scam alert.

Tell them you're reporting the issue to the Federal Trade Commission, the better business bureau and the FBI for interstate fraud.

That should get their attention! And if they don't refund, follow through and report the scam.

Trust me, no company wants the government crawling up their ass with tweezers and a magnifying glass! Oh another source of revenge/persuation is media outlets. Make a big skink, trust me, they'll want you to go away faster than a date with a scorching case of herpes!

Re: Trendwest Vacation Scam alert.

Um this sounds very similar to something that happened to my parents in the late 90s but with a Florida timeshare thing. Well they paid around $1000 and every time they tried to use it they would get hit with the "I'm sorry there isn't enough space, or you don't have the right to stay at blah season."

Well a year or so passed and my parents got mad and demanded their money back. The company told them that the contract expired in a year so they just lost their money because they never "used it." Heated is an understatement
