Well there's an apexi itc someone around here is selling and I was wanting some info. I understand what it does, I understand how it works.
I was thinking, I have safc/maft and the reason I am limited to 650cc injectors is due to timing getting too out of control. Couldn't you take some of that timing back with the itc and get some bigger injectors and turbo?
Further more, since I had to take some base timing out to get to the boos level I wanted, couldn't I add a few degrees at the 800 rpm point and maybe even the 2400 rpm mark and get my low end back along with being able to have control over some parts of the timing curve.
Anything I can find on it says people didn't really like it, and that people didn't get anything out of it.
Did it not work correctly? Was there something wrong with it?
I wish it had more rpm points but I can see it being a pretty useful tuning tool as long as I can log for knock. But I have never seen one in action. And can't find anyone who actually has used it.
I kind of think it would be neat, to have some vintage stuff as kind if a nostalgic thing but I'm not going to pick it up if I can't use it, that would be like putting empty nitrous bottles In the trunk.
Spare me the "just get dsmlink" stuff. I don't race my car or anything, just like messing around sometimes. By the way this is a 1g.
Seems like you have it pretty figured out to me. I've seen them used in 3kgts with great results. Theoretically yes, you should be able to put the timing back, then pull it when needed to compensate for the airflow the afc hides. I believe that the ecu always assumes that base timing is +5BTDC and has no way to read actual base timing, so keep that in mind.
My opinion- Its super old, they have been known to cause problems in specific applications, and there are much better ways to accomplish what you want to do.
But i understand that not everyone has the money to buy 2-300 eproms and 4-600$ engine management. With that said, if it can be had for cheap, try it out.

Alright, I was just checking to see if they were poor quality or something. Thanks a lot. I'm gonna try getting it, the person has not responded to me yet and it's been a few days
Honestly. You should sign up on the DSMECU.com forums. With a $25 eBay VAG-COM cable, $50 junkyard 3G Eclipse/02-04 base lancer ECU, and $25 Evoscan program you can have a viable tuning solution with speed density, anti-lag, stutterbox, all that great stuff. And you get full control over timing, AFR, VE, etc.
Hey. At least I didn't say just get DSMLink. Seriously though, just go over there and check it out.

It's decidedly NOT plug and play. But the OP is going about things the "do it yourself" way anyway. So I figured doing a little wiring for the ECU wouldn't be too far out of the question. You need to make a patch harness, which isn't THAT bad honestly.

So lets get is skrate, DSM wiring harness and sensors, 3G or lancer ECU, EVOscan and tools needed for that...
Correct,Its WAY more work and money than what he'd pay for an itc. I think if he had the money or drive to do this he wouldn't have asked about something as old/primitive as the itc

By you people, you obviosly mean me. I simply answered HIS question with something that was relevent to HIS question. I didn't answer it with something he probably has ZERO interest in completing that would require HOURS more labor and a couple HUNDRED dollars more. Your prices and lobor is off by a longshot also.
I got an idea OP- just get link. Its the bomz
