Question

i was wondering if anyone has or is using water injection for these cars. i have seen this done to some cars, scc project 300zx and they cant stop talking about it. for people who dont know what it is,it is a super fine mist of atomized water that mixes with the fuel, basically it will all but rid your car of detonation. it will take some power away because of a less potent fuel mixture, but from what i understand, it far out-weighs the disadvantages of lower power because you can run a higher boost without detonation. they, being scc and altered atmoshere performance, say that it is like having a full tank of race fuel in the car at all times. another good side effect is that known to keep your engine components cleaner due to the fact that in a way are steam cleaning the parts. i have personally had no experience with the system, but would like to know. the price seems to be very reasonable at only $210 for a spearco system. i emailed a guy who sells them for more info.

Spearco is ok, kind of a let down for how much they cost. The Aquamist setup is amazing! It is definitely worth the upcharge.

This is the way i understand water injection. Basically, with high boost engines the camber gets VERY hot. To prevent detonation, you have to use more fuel. This fuel does nothing for combustion, and is only there to cool down the engine.
Water injection is intented to take the place of this fuel. If tuned correctly you can make as much power as a non-water injection system, with less fuel. You will, however, have to make more boost. You will also have to have a water resevoir for the injection system.

Hope that helps.

avoid the spearco kit

It is a complete POS. The only kit that really seems to work well is the aquami$t one. There have been a couple threads on this, try doing a search and you'll see what people have already said on it.

You might read what....

Corky Bell has to say about water injection on Turbo charged engines. It's not good though.

His very good book is called "Maximum Boost" and can be found on Amazon.com

Thumbs down

$210 Where?? Pros- runing higher boost without melting the engine, lots more power on pump gas! steam cleaning affect on pistons, valves, intake, combustion chamber!an it's ALMOST like running race gas. Cons- refilling the water resevior, the more you boost the more you have to add water.(heard it can get aggravating),Having the system stop working for some reason, while your playing on highway, or race track! Having it leak to much water into chambers! Thats just what I found while doing some research on water injection. If you get it get the BEST SYSTEM out there, which from what I hear is the Aquamist about $500. Don't get me wrong the water injection works very VERY WELL, but I myself will just use race gas. the cons out weigh the pros to ME!!!

I've personally datalogged a car with water injection...

1G - auto running 18psi, stock fuel pump, stock injectors, stock i/c

Had a knock count of about 30 with the water injection turned off.

Turned the water injection on and knock went down to about 18.

He had the "smallest" jet in there and is going to install the next step up. I'll let you know when I get it datalogged.

definitely made the car feel smoother.

He built his own kit (very nice!!)...ended up running about $300 for top of the line components.

I'll post a link if I can find it.

Well remeber that he says that it's basically a bandaid for not having an efficent enough IC. Well 1G bumpers aren't that big, you can't have a huge FMIC without cooling problems.

Oh and Dyre nice car I like 7s.

Thanx Nick. I do to, thats why i rescued it from the Ghetto...

I really shouldn't have bought it, its in pretty bad shape... I hate people who abuse great cars.

Water Injection seams like a great way to cut down on gas bills when pushing 350rwhp. I can handle filling up a water tank every couple days if it saves me 2mpg-5mpg...

1st of all, thanks for all of the replies. so the spearco is a POS, anyway it goes for 210 at alteredatmosphere.com, it is a link from the dsm link page. where could i get the aquamist and for how much? race gas is hard for me to get and is very expensive, about $4/gallon. 300-400 bucks one time would surely make up for the difference in due time, plus it keeps your engine cleaner, better combustion in the long run. keep the advice comin. does anyone elso know someone who runs a water system on any turbo? what do they have to say..

Get ALCOHOL injection. Wait for bigger turbo. Just allows more boost without knock. If you have a stock turbo, the extra boost really isn't doing much. With a larger turbo, then that extra 5-7lbs of boost you can run will make a difference. It also cleans the engine spotless. If your intake manifold looks as bad as mine does on the inside it might take ahwile, but you would be amazed how clean it keeps everything.

But........

Isn't alchohal super hard on your lubrication system? That combined with high boost and temperatures would make me worry about using it on a street car.

Aquamist...

http://www.aquamist.co.uk/

That is the companies main site they have a vendors page and you can look there.
A larger Intercooler is better than Water Injection, but water injection still does have its added greatness especially when boosting over 20psi.
Corky Bell wrote a great book with lots of info, but he wasn't talking about running 20+ psi either.....
