Would a chat room be a good idea on DSM talk? Would it work out? Post your opinion.

We are definately leaning against it now. Even with huge userbases there seems to typically be no substantive use. On my last trip to the camaroz28 chat room (and they have a user base that is MUCH bigger than ours) I found 2 guys typing burp and fart sounds. No one else was in there.

And when you do get a decent amount of people in there, conversations often degrade into name calling, harrassment, fights, whatever. There is enough of that on the internet already for sure, and irc for one has no shortage of that.

BTW, our next version of this bulletin board (HOPEFULLY it will be made available to us this month) has buddy lists and instant messaging built in. I have used the beta and it is slick. So that might satisfy some of your need for instantaneous conversation. Actually, the DSMtalk.com Forums have been so busy at certain periods, its practically chat already :)

The guys in the main DSM IRC chat channel(not irc.dsm.org) are pretty hardcore. Don't go in there asking newbie questions that have been answered 5 billion times before or anything that has even been covered in any FAQs or in the Talon Digest or on here. :) Half the guys in there own Supra TTs now instead of DSM. The server is run by Supra owner who used to own a DSM. Half the time the chat is just about random crap and porn, once in a while we actually talk about some interesting DSM tuning related stuff.
