Long story short....My 97 eclipse is across the US at my parents house. I tried to have them start it awhile ago, ended up jump starting the car. While jump starting the car, the wiring harness that slips onto the terminal was arcing. Maybe just the wiring is brittle or breaking before the battery connection. I did do a engine replacement awhile ago, maybe the wiring got bent and is now weak. I did replace the alternator and put in a new battery. Any ideas?
Either there was a break in the wire and it sparked across the gap or a short to ground and thats what the sparks were. Either way its a fire hazard, so when you get back to the car check the wiring out thoughly and replace whatever looks burnt or brittle. Good luck.
Obviously check the wiring around the spark area for breaks and shorts. Check your battery terminals, they might have been loose and that could cause a spark too. That would also be a reason that you needed to boost the car to start. In general just look around for thing that dont seem proper.
