10 minute edit window ... why?

I read somewhere on here one time that there's a 10 minute edit window. I forget where I saw it, so it may be less or more, but my question is what is the thought process behind that? I've had a number of posts over the years where I've realized I made an error or I wanted to add another thought to (instead of making another post) and I can't b/c the timeframe has past. This is the only forum I belong to that is like that. I'm not complaining, just curious as to what the rationale is ... Thanks.

Rational is so someone doesn't say something (dispute), then change it later and deny. It's for historical correctness of the site. Just like Mods are supposed to move old/offensive thread to cold storage instead of hard deleting them. Again, all about the records of the site.

What is this "cold storage" you speak of? Next you're going to tell me there's a secret forum just for the mods and admins.

Re: 10 minute edit window ... why?

It's in Russia. They keep all the archived files there.
