Ok this is really strange. Why does my serpentine belt keep sliding / shredding on my 96 eclipse RS 2.0? Could my harmonic balance (crank pulley) be going bad??? What are the other symptoms of a failing harmonic balance? Its strange because my altinator and a/c belt always shreds but yet my small belt stays in place perfectly.
Water pump pulleys being on backwards can cause this issue. Yes a harmonic damper pulley going bad can cause it as well but you should be able to see it wobble while the car is running.
Tensioners and distorted pulleys will cause this. Check all the pulleys for free spin as well. SHould feel little to no resistance on turning anything.
ok. Im changing out my harmonic balance pully and my power steering pully as well because everything else in the timing area is new cept those. Ill keep everybody updated. Please still comment if you find something else. thanks
HAHA! your "altinator" and AC belts keep shredding but your other small belt is fine. You have an alternator belt PERIOD. And a power steering/air conditioning belt. If it is the alternator belt than it is not a serpentine belt. From your description we have no idea what belt is shredding. You my swell be confusing your alternator for your AC pump YEE HAW!
