I have a 1997 Mitsuubishi Eclipse GS-T Spyder. My dad, boyfriend and I took out my backseats (afterall - they suck...) and took my dad's system out; which contained: 4 10" subs (DB+ by Kenwood) and stuck it in the place of the back seats. We also got some plywood and cut out 4 extra spots. In the 4 spots I have 2 Sony Xplod's 5 and a quarter in diameter (small, but by far the best speakers. I recommend them!) and 2 cheap ass speakers I plan on replacing... At a measurement of 6 X 9. Still have the two Infinity stocks in the back panels, and two shitty speakers in the front that I plan on replacing. Then, mounted on each side of the sub box I have 2 Kenwood 5 channel amps, 1200 watts each. As for the radio, I have a brand new Sony XPlod, which is very good, and only 100 bucks at wal mart! Great way to save money and have a great radio that has an aux plug in. So, with all that said, what speakers should i use to replace the crappy speakers I have? I was thinking either more Sony Xplods or Pioneers. I will post the pics of them up as soon as possible. I know Sony isn't the best of all brands, but I'm going to college and I'm on a budget.
How is the bass from the subs? Seeing as there is not much room for the waves to travel, it seem like the subs could perform better turned around the other way but seeing as it’s a spyder I really don’t know.
Believe it or not, it sounds better in my 2G Spyder than my dad's 3G Eclipse RS in his hatch. It's a tighter space, so all the sound waved are surrounding me, than causing the trunk to rattle, etc.
If your having extra noise it is most likely those RCA splitters that you said you used, most of them are very cheapy and have next to no shielding, and as with anything else you have plugged in your sound quality decreases. I would suggest running one amp and getting rid of some of the subs, One good quality subwoofer and amp would probably sound nicer than that setup, and im not trying to be a dick but you get all kinds of distortion with setups like this. I also hate to burst your bubble but every sony CD player I have had experience with (even one that was over 300 dollars of my brothers) was pretty low quality, you get all kinds of funky noises that I don't get with my other head units. Try deleting those RCA splitters and running 1 amp and see if that gets you anywhere, if that fails its probably your head unit because of the poor of internal grounding cheap head units have.
*sighs...* I don't think you guys understand... =/
I'm running the Sony radio, simply because I'm on a tight budget. I'm STILL in high school - graduating in May. ALSO, I'm saving up for college! That's the only thing that's stopping me from getting better speakers and head unit. Also, my Sony is MUCH better than my mom's Allpine. Maybe the Sony's you had were crappy. Hell, idk. I like mine. And my RCA cables are mostly the best. I can replace the older ones and see how it goes.
I've had some good luck with Sony stuff in the past, its decent for when you're on a budget. This is a pretty nice audio build you got going here. Keep up the good work!
I just got a box specially made for my car it houses 2 12" Audiopipes and I have a 1500 Watt Class D mono block amp. Head unit is a double din with nav, components in the doors and tweets in the dash. I'm not going to lie it's loud as hell but still maintains that crisp sound.
as soon as i can get some batteries for my digital camera i'll take some more and post them up i'll also post pics of what it looks like in the car....
it's going in a 95 GST i'll post some more pics as soon as i get my car back out the tranny shop shift linkages broke so i lost first gear i'm also putting a stage 3 clutch in to replace the oem.
Anyways, I would carpet everything . You dont have alot of options in a spyder for speaker placement but isnt there a spot for the 6x9s on the sides of the rear sear? why not place them there?
Dsm alternators suck. They put out around 40 amps at idle at 12 volts. Thats about 480 watts of power for the ENTIRE car. The only reason your stereo works (if it is a true 2400watts rms) is because your battery makes up the difference.
At best a dsm alternator can put out about 90 amps at ~13 volts. That is still not crap compared to what you really need.
that is where the actual box is the cover is simply the top i should have taken pics before i put it in and during cause that box is a tight fit. but it sounds awsome.
4g64 fiero, the simple way to fix that problem is to add another battery prefferably a dry cell something like and optima or a kinetik power cell to your audio system, I have a 1000 watt 4 channel on my highs and mids, and a 1500 watt mono block on my subs, with my system playing almost all the way up i'm still supplying my amps with any where from 12.3 to 14.4 volts.

Depending on how much current the amps are pulling, if your alternator hasn't been rebuild to produce more current then the alternator will burn up a lot faster then it regularly would.
Well, thank you! It sounds amazing and I love the Sony player. It does great. Eventually, I will probably change out the splitters. Also I will replace the front speakers and the two 6x9's that are on the "shelf" (plywood) that's screwed into the sub box. Right now, I'm just waiting on my muffler to get in...
Afterburn where is it that you got the box made from?
