Can I drive with no dipstick?

Probobly a stupid question but can I drive with no dipstick in with no major problems? the handle broke off of mine , and I was able to fish out the rest of it that had fallen about 4 inchs down the tube. is the end of the dip stick supposed to be twisted?? but anyways im taking it to school then right to the shop afterwards. The part that broke off still had alittle piece on top with a hole through it so I put a metal twistie tie through it and put it back in the dipstick hole without the handle so i can retrieve it easier when i get to the shop. should that be fine?

not if you dont want oil all over your motor...

I did an oil change and forgot to put my dipstick back in (a little buzzed ) When i was driving around and not on the throttle i didnt notice anything but the first time I goosed it through 3 gears I lost about 1/2 quart of oil out my dipstick stem and all over the top of my engine... What a bitch it was to clean up that mess...

In short dont do it... get another dipstick they cant be that expensive....

Actually, you will be fine as long as you keep the dipstick in there. I had the same thing happen to me, and I drove a couple days while I waited for the replacement to come in. The handle isnt a critical part of it, but make sure that the rubber seal is still there, or you will have oil everywhere.
