HELP!!! I need to know how to actually adjust my shift linkage.

i have searched like crazy and cant find out how to actually adjust my shift linkage cables. I know how to do it, but i dont know where the adjustment (knobs, ect, whatever the hell it is) is. I have the cables off the tranny connection. if anyone knows for real how to do the actual adjusting that would be great. Its a 96 GS by the way. Thanks

Yeah - take the center console out so you're looking at the shifter's bare metal and the cables. There are screw-in adjusters where the cables meet at the shifter itself. You just loosen up the nuts on each end, turn the adjusters as desired, and then tighten the nuts back up.

Be careful, though..... I snapped my select cable trying to adjust them the other day......

No, thats not it. thats on a first gen. My 2g has no adjusters right there. I looked in the engine bay too and didnt see ant adjustements on the shift linkage there. Does anyone know how to do it on a 2g.

I just looked in the service manual and there is no mention of how to adjust either the select or shift cable. That seems kind of strange.

For the Select Cable it says to put the transaxle shift lever to neutral(which also puts the select lever in neutral). and put the paasenger compartment shift lever in neutral and install the cable. No mention of any adjustment.

For the Shift Cable it says to leave the transaxle select lever in neutral and put the passenger compartment shift lever in 4th gear. Again no mention of adjustments. Just says to check for smooth operation in all positions

2Gs don't have any mechanism to adjust the shifter cables. Kinda sucky.

Just a though. Is it possible you have the Select and Shift cables swapped on the transaxel?

no i checked, it isnt actually possible to switch them, it doesnt reach, but i actually talked to a mitsu mechanic and he said the same thing to check whether or not the cables are switched, other than that he didnt know, its making me so frustrated i dont know how the cable could have gotten off by over an inch.
An y replies would be great. Thanks again.
