Pocket PC datalogging solution

OK,

So I've been searching on here for a while about pocket/data logging with a pocket pc OS (aka windows ce) so that I could use my fast, reliable, and color compaq ipaq for logging and not have to use my palm m100.

I found some stuff while surfin the net and wanted to see what you guys thought.

to get the ipaq to be able to go serial, there are cheap cables on ebay, like the following:

you could then use a serial male male cable to connect it all together since the connection off the ipaq and the elmscan are both female:

now for the software, ie "the most important part",
I found a few sites that were developing pocket pc datalogging stuff, and a lot of them had the software to download for free:

Now I realize the ones for sale are costly, but they sound like high quality logging software from what I read. I could justify spending a little more than what the "pocketlogger" costs, but nothing outrageous.

Anyways, I was wondering what those that have been searching for a pocket pc based logging system thought about this info and if anyone had any input.

I cant afford to buy nor do I need to buy dsmlink, which to my knowledge isnt useable with pocketpc anyways. Again, to reiterate what was previously stated, I am trying to steer away from my palm because I have something better (ipaq) and just personnal preference. Any input or insight is greatly appreciated!

At any rate, this is good research and I appreciate it.

I am a longtime OBD-2 Pocketlogger user on my old crusty Handspring Visor, Palm OS 3.5 something, good ol' greyscale!

If there's a way to hack stuff onto my Ipaq that would be cool. More memory, bright screen, etc. So I definitely hear ya there. But that isn't really possible I think because it's not written for the Pocket PC OS.

Definately would like to use my ipaq as a pocketlogger. I currently use it as a GPS device in my car and it works great, it's mounted on the windshield, neatly. If I could just add Datalogging to it, I'd be set.

WOW guys, thanks for the compliments on the continuing research.

I am still looking into the software aspect, as that seams to be the only weak link in stopping a dsm owner from using his pocket pc (IPAQ or whatever platform you're going to use) as a datalogger.

I'm currently talking to Digimoto about a variant of their current software that they are supposedly developing for pocket pc platforms. Hopefull I will have more info and some updates on it ASAP. It could end up being $100 or less for the software and cables

Yeah definately let us know. I would really be interested in getting one for my ipaq. I don't like palm's and i don't own one, so for me to datalog, I need to purchase a pda and the cable, that's almost 200 bucks.
