Wheels locked up

Okay, just yesterday I was driving to a friends house and BAM, my wheels all locked up! Thank God I was only doing about 20 mph at the time.

Now for the past month or so my car was making a whistling kind of sound from the tranny/driveline, but a guy here in town that is very good w/these cars said nothing appeared to be wrong...couldn't hear it either. Anyway, several months ago my car needed to be towed, and they didn't have a means to get it off the ground right away (I'm AWD). So he towed it on 2 wheels across the street where he then got it on dolleys and took it to the shop.

My question is can even just a 5 mph hop across the street on 2 wheels cause damage that could lead to this? It was actually the same guy towing me this time as the first time, and he said it wouldn't do any damage (of course I've heard other stories here from drivers who aren't correct).

Any thoughts? Should I be prepared to make the tow service pay?

did you have the transfer case recall done? sounds like that could possibly be the problem....my gsx locked the wheels going 55 mph when i first got the car and had no clue when it came to dsm's or cars in general. So it could very well be that...get under the car and see if the transfer case leaked. just a thought...good luck man

Thanks for the quick respone. Never had that recall done, and that's what I'm hoping for cuz I dunno how I'm gonna pay for any significant repairs. I didn't see anything near the Xsfer case area, but up closer to the tranny/converter it looked like something was kinda wet. Guess I'll find out

The guy who towed your car is wrong. Towing an AWD car on 2 wheels will break something. He probaly did break something and if I were you I would go there and bitch them out. there was a thread a while back where the same thing happened. I believe it was the viscous coupling that recieved the damage.

i know this is late but why would you need a tow truck to move your car across the street? slap it in neutral and put your back into it lol
my guess is that your trasnfer case was probably empty and locked up.
P.S. the guy with the tow truck is an idiot. period.

Well the first time it needed towed cuz I ended up in the center turn lane on a 4 lane road...couldn't really get traffic to stop to allow that.

Okay, so what do you guys think then, if it's been a couple months since the first incident do you think I still would have a legitimate case against the tow company? I did tell the officer at the seen I needed a rollback, but he failed to relay that to the tow service.

I know that towing a awd by two wheels hurts the VC however, I don't neccessarily believe that the 50 feet required to cross a 4 lane road (5 with center turn lane) would be enough to destroy it... I would be more inclined to believe that your TC was bone dry and thus locked up... just my $.02

UPDATE

Well I just got off the phone w/the mechanic and he said no oil, but plenty of metal came from the drain plug on my Xsfer case Guess that means it will go under the recall.
