On my new '91 Talon TSi AWD, I have a '90 gauge cluster with the speedometer ending in 5s, not 0s. I was wondering if the mph would be correct, or 5 mph off.
I was also wondering: if that is the case, will a '90 ECU correct it? The car has a '90 ECU. Everything else runs fine, but I was wondering if there are any negative effects of running a '90 ECU rather than the '91.
The speedometer has just a different face. If you want, you can swap only the speedometer. However, find out if your car is actually 90 or 91. You can easily tell by the location of the cruise control, the vacuum lines on the TB, the TPS and the plugs of the TPS and ISC. If you rac is in fact 91, the ECU may have been already swapped and the previous owner may have installed the 90 instrument cluster to correct a tach problem that sometime results from the swap as result of different tach interface on 90s and 91+. If swapping the ECU, there's a couple of wires that need to be changed + the coil pack, transistor and the tach need to be swapped as well sometime. There's been plenty of threads regarding the ECU swap, though.
