Opinions on ECU rebuild companies

Gonna get my old Eprom rebuilt. I'm lookin for some feedback on what companies you guys have used, quality, etc.

Another question is how fubared an ecu can be before a rebuild is out of the question. The P.O. put silicone caulking over a good chunk of it, no idea why.

Pic of the ECU:

Re: Opinions on ECU rebuild companies

Honestly, I'm not sure what heatsink paste is. It just looked like caulking so I assumed it was. Mind giving a little info on how I could tell them apart real quick?

Re: Opinions on ECU rebuild companies

Many of the guys here have had ecu work done by a member by the name of Stephen.

I personally have dealt with www.foreignecurepair.com and had a good experience.

Are you talking about me?

That's RTV drowning the circuit. I forget which place does that but it basicly ruins the ECU for future repairs unless you like picking it off the board.

Re: Opinions on ECU rebuild companies

No worries.

I wish I could remember which "professional" thinks all that RTV is a good idea. It would help if he actually cleanned all the electrolyte off the board before hand before instead of covering over it.

Wow, they are asking $250 flat rate for the "rebuild" that's like going to AutoZone for one.

I'd love to see the quality of their work if anybody has one from them.

Re: Opinions on ECU rebuild companies

With all due respect to the rules about self promotion, I should point out that http://simon.chi.il.us.il.us/ECU/ is my site for ECU repairs.

Unlike the other referals, I'm an original owner and active in the community dating back to the original Talon digest. I work on each ECU as if it was mine with the goal of restoring it back to original. You won't find keep out stickers on my ECUs. I'm not afraid of you seeing my work and you won't find your ECU drowning in RTV like the OP did. Feel free to ask anybody who's had their ECU fixed by me what they think. There's a reason why Keydiver, the guys at DSMLink, AMS, Devo Tuning, Beyond Redline, and PINA Motorsports send their customers to me.

That link doesn't work I think it has one too many .il.us in it.
I think it should be http://simon.chi.il.us/ECU/
