A better Mousetrap

Hey i was wondering if someone here could help me out on this minor setback i got myself into. I am wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction on this problem. First of all i am using an old 1990 non eprom ( not that it matters) ECM, there are a couple of things i would like to change on it.#1 i need a simpler approach to getting a functional tach wire without going through a noise filter of some sort, and make it fire a POSITIVE trigger, yes i said positive because thats the signal i feed the STOCK corolla tach to make it move, ground feeding it with pulses makes it do nothing.Back to the question at hand, can someone help me wither make this simpler or do i have to make a flipping circuit like what most people do to 2g's with 6 bolts?as in the RRE/ Magnus way? I would like to inquire more about using a 92 on up ecu so i maybe able to dsmlink it in the future. Yes it is a corolla, and yes it does have a 4g63.

Re: A better Mousetrap

Yes its one of my AE 86 GT-S hatch, had a coupe too ... it was VERY VERY VERY nice, till a tree parked itself ontop of it. So i vented my anger and made something useful, like this car $33 in paint and the total money spent on the vehicle with its purchase is roughly 1300 bucks, its my entry for GRM 2008. But i dont think it will make it since i dont have the resources like a trailer and extra hands to participate in that event, so next year ill have another $1 to add to the budget. would it be a teaser if i said its using a Toyota Supra trans ? if it is ill just tell you it has a Ford 8.8" rear waiting to be rebuilt with an EATON LSD. Other than that it runs fine, and the paint came out all wrong, it was supposed to be flat but the paint would have cost me 120 bucks plus the hardener, activator and reducer.I wanted to make it look like a military vehicle, but im starting to like it now. Still need to slap all kinds of ford, mazda,GM ,Toyota and maybe a POLARIS too ( my MR2 uses polaris parts for the intercooler)

Is this enough of a teaser ?

Re: A better Mousetrap

If you are 100% sure that you need a positive signal for your tach then you can use a spdt relay and reverse polarity. The signal will come in through pin 85, it will go out to your tach on pin 30, and pin 87 and pin 86 will get 12v.

You will need a DMM to see what signal the ignition system puts out. I know that if you tag the injector wire, it is AC voltage there.

Re: A better Mousetrap

yes it is positive, i injected a pulsed positive signal in it and it WORKED! you do know that relay would be going crazy because its a pulsed signal.if i were to do that i would use a transistorized solid state circuit, not an electromechanical relay.

As for the injector wire, i am not trying to degrade the injector signal , burn the driver module in the ecu up, if i even do that route. i doubt i am but thanks for trying to help. i am going to do something about it maybe monday or so and see what i come up with, im not really pressed for it since its not going to GRM 2008 anyway. again thanks for your post in trying to help out.

Here's his progress album. If his ADD wasn't in full effect, he'd have his Talon running 7s by now instead of building this bucket.

DOH!!!you said progress! Anyway that car was Steves idea, he said I bet you cant rua a 4g63 and a Corolla together and make it run. After that he said im just nuts to do it , while im right in the middle of the build.By the time i was about ready to sell it set it on fire or throw it in the woods, he told me im a slacker. Then my big turbo blew up, the car caught fire.
After all that i still wouldnt be able to put any one of my lawn ornaments together if it was not for him a few select friends. And yes my talon runs 7's it ran 7 times down the strip and managed to blow the turbo apart

i really didnt think much of the car till maybe 2 days after it got painted, now i kinda like it, it makes more sound than my talon at the moment. Thank you all for the replys and i should be able to work on it sometime in the middle of the week and hopefully get the tach working

BTW its not a teaser now Steve spilled the beans.
