Engine build..Difference in block or crank for late 7 bolts.
I want to start building my 98 7 bolt Shortblock. And I noticed that when searching for bearings, theres two different sets.
I know that the late 97-99 7 bolt blocks were made with a different thrust bearing design. So my question is...
Are the bearings different because of the block or is the crankshaft different.
I have 2 95 blocks with good cranks and the 98 block has a spun rod bearing. I have not taken it apart yet but suspect that the crank is probably scored up (unless I'm lucky). So can the 95 cranks be used in a 98 shortblock with 98bearings? How will this have to be done? (or will I have to get a new OEM 98 Crankshaft?)
Basically I want to use my 98 block for the build so my question is geared towards using the block. The block never overheated nor was it ever decked so its the most perfect block not to mention really clean. The 95 blocks are ok and the cranks are good. (one crank with 161K and the other crank with 140K and counting since I'm using it now)
I will be using Mahle Pistons with Eagle rods and ACL tri bearings with ARP everything.
