Hi guys, just wanna share something I've done. I was actually done a long time ago, I just didnt have time to post on the forums. A guy has asked me regarding this topic. I couldnt post this on dsmtuner, Here it goes.
Things needed:
1. Brembo calipers from CTS-V to GSX (dont know GST and other models) will bolt on right up, but need some custom machine shop's jobs (cheap one).
2. 13" rotors from Saleen or SVT cobra, need a custom machine shop's job.
3. Braided brake line from EVO8/9 or CTS-V
4. 2 more pairs of front brake pads (there would be 2 pairs for each sides needed) = 8 brake pads
5. CRC brake quiet (pink colored liquid) or other liquid to stick between metals.
6. New bolts, cant use the stock DSM caliper bolts. I dont remember the spec of the bolts. Go to local auto shops (Autozone, etc) to get the bolts and match them up.
Steps: (these are the way I did, you may come up your own way)
1. Assumed 13" cobra rotor is being used. Bring the calipers to a local machine shop. Cut or shave off some areas on the earing mounting holes (the outer areas that attach to the mounting knuckle holes) about 1cm(10mm). (Refer to pics)
2a. If you put the calipers upside down, you will see 4 bumps inside the calipers (long rectangular shapes) between the brake pads locations; 2 bumps on each side. Shave off the outer bumps (2 of them) as flat as the inner side of the caliper. (machine shop job) (Refer to pics)
2b. Bring your 13" rotors to a local machine shop which does make holes. You'll need to make another set of 5 holes with your DSM spec bolt pattern; 5x113.5 if Im not mistaken. (Refer to pics)
3. If you buy the calipers new and come with new brembo pads, you'll just need to get another box of brake pads from Autozone. Get the cheapest one from EVO or CTS-V 04-07 front brake pads. Once you get a new set from Autozone, use a hammer to tap and flat-head screwdriver to pry out the cheap pads from Autozone (only two pads pried out, one pad for each side). (Refer to pics)
4. You'll just need to use the pried-out pads to thicken the inner side of brake pads on each side (Driver&Pess). Make sure you fully clean them up and they should look flat no pads left (only the metal base will be used). (Refer to pics)
5. Stick the bald metal pad behind your Brembo pad with CRC Brake quiet or other liquid you'd like to use. In this case, these pads are going to the inner side of the calipers (the one close to knuckle). You might need to let them dry to hard, then continue the installing brake pads process as usual. Put the double-brake pads inside and one piece brake pad outside. (Refer to pics)
The purpose of sticking another pad behind the other one is to bring the rotors to the center of the calipers. By eliminating the inner bumps (Step 2a) is to prevent frictions between rotors and calipers' bumps when the pads wear out.
6. In the installing calipers and rotors to the 2G GSX knuckles process, one thing you should pay attention carefully is the clearance between the rotor and the caliper. In my case, I shaved 10mm of the mounting bolt caliper areas, and I still needed to put flat-washers between the knuckle mounting holes and the calipers' ones - to ensure the rotors are in the center position of the calipers.
7. Hook up the braided lines. Some modifications may be needed since the DSM OEM brake lines are different in shape; you may or may not use the lock pins to secure the brake lines connections.
8. Bleed the entire system.
I hope this info will be useful for you guys to figure out how to have a custom big brake kit which is supposed to cost $2000 over.
If any of these steps above isnt clear, please refer to pics or throw a discussion here.
Why did you have to drill new holes in the rotors? Mustangs have the same bolt pattern as DSMs.
Also, what brake lines did you use for those Evo rear calipers? Stock lines or did you use a set of Evo lines, and what brand?
It's because the ones on Mustangs are bigger, also the hub center is bigger. So, it feels loose. Instead of putting a metal hub ring to make the rotor centered, I drilled another set of holes with smaller diameter size. So, the rotor seats nicely and firmly. You dont want them to shake and vibrate for sure. It's hard as well to look a pair of metal hub rings to do so, and i think this way is not safe either since the lug nuts and the holes are loose.
FOr the rear, I use EVO brake braided-lines, caliper EVO bolt on right up. But you need to either cut the dust shields or cut its edge into peaces so you can open it widely. Brand? any brand. There are many options you can go with such as Earls, Goodrich, etc.. Mine was much cheaper than any of those brands, and was a good deal (clearance time of an online store), and good quality too.
I have been following this very closely, are you able to mount this underneath
a 17" rim?
I also thought the mustang also uses the same pattern 5x114.3.
Hi,
Thank you for correcting me. Yes the bolt pattern is 5x114.3 hahaha my bad. I've forgotten it (I'm sorry). One of the reasons is to make them seat nice and firm.
17" rims? They could, but I aint sure, because I use 18"x8" 225/40/18 with EVO's offset has very little clearance between the caliper and the inner diameter of the wheels. Different brands have different offset characteristics, so you can go with style or brand you prefer but you should keep trying to put wheels on and on and see if they fit with nice clearance.
I have RAZE 18x8 offset 40 or 38, either one. I dont remember. YOu can go with your own style and favorite rims. Make sure to put them on in order to get right ones.
Evo Rotors are 12.65"
Cobra ones are 13"
CTS-V ones are 14"
how are you using calipers that are made for 14" rotors with 13" rotors?
if you are going down a full inch in rotor size, why not just go down to evo rotors and it would not need any machine work to get the rotors to fit lol
I think the evo X rotor would have been best bet. its location is a little more towards the rims compare to 2g rotors. This might help get away with machineing the calipers. evo x rotor are 13.8 with the same offset as evo 8/9.

You just dont understand until you go down there and put your hands and eyes on them exactly what they fit together. IF you install the CTSV calipers on the OEM 2G GSX knuckle like mine, they will exactly bolt on and the will meet 13" rotors exactly. I've done on my car. If you argue putting EVO's one, Evo's ones are smaller in diameter just thicker. You dont want your brake pads to wear out unevenly, do you?
CTSV's rotors are 6-hole lugs. And they will be oversized on the calipers and OEM gsx knuckles.
The 370z 14" rotors are supposed to fit with no mods necessary.
Noone has tried it yet.
Yes, I was thinking that way too. The thing was back to those days when this project was being done. The 370Z wasnt out there on the market yet. And talking about 14" size, again this idea could be done too by fabricating custom brake caliper spacers to bring the calipers a bit farther of the knuckles.
I'm here just wanna share something that will ease and minimize the job and bolt-on easily.
