I recently replaced my double din factory stereo with a single din stereo that plays AM/FM, CD and MP3. This leaves an extra space in the lower din slot. I would like to use the lower din slot for storing my sun glasses, phone, MP3 player, etc. Does anyone have a Mitsubishi part number for this, or can anyone recommend a suitable aftermarket din pocket? The Mitsu part number is especially helpful. Otherwise, my local dealer will ask for my car's VIN#, and then inform me that my car was not originally equipped with such a pocket. Also would appreciate a part number for the double din faceplate. Thanks!
Most stereo shops usually have universal ones for cheap.
That is true. I really see no need in spending the type of money required for an OEM piece. And honestly, Ive never seen a 1g DSM come with a single din unit. Every one I have seen was a radio/tape deck or CD/tape deck. if not a single unit am/fm radio. Not to say they definitely did not. I just have never seen one.
Like i said i got mine from the junk yard. Only because my trim was cracked. But i had the single din unit. My car is a bone stock 93 1.8 dl. And the car i pulled it from was a 94 2.0 that even had door speakers. I dont even have that. My only other parts car in that whole yard was a 90 eclipse gs with the full audio option so the trim piece didnt have the divider in the middle.
This was my old trim setup with a generic pocket i could pull out with my hand. Thats generic pocket for you. The regular one attaches to the trim. Note the divider between the radio and the pocket. Thats what you want.

I do believe you'll see them with the 1.8L base model cars. Probably the ones with a manual rack or no cruise, lol. I have had a couple thanks to ebay.
I ended up getting one from my local Mitsubishi dealer after all. $16 and it fits perfectly. They do seem to get annoyed though when you come in to buy parts for a 17 year old car. Obviously they'd rather that I drop $25K+ for a new one. Not happening at this point.
