Hooked up Sub, power to amp, but no sound from sub. What's wrong?
I put a system in my '97 GSX and hooked everything up correctly it appears and there is power to the amp, but there is no sound coming from the sub even though it is moving a little. When I put my ear close to the sub it has a little sound, but it is not loud and normal like it should be. The same thing happened when I first put this system in my '99 lincoln navigator and I took it over to best buy and the guy came out and said everything looked good except for one little thing. He switched something and it worked perfectly!! But I can't remember what he did. What is wrong?
Re: Hooked up Sub, power to amp, but no sound from sub. What's wrong?
It's definitely just somethng plugged in the wrong spot or something. I remember when I was testing out a pair of computer speakers, I plugged one of the wires in the wrong spot by accident, so sound came out, but very low just like you are describing (had to hold the speaker to my ear to hear it). check your connections.
Re: Hooked up Sub, power to amp, but no sound from sub. What's wrong?
Make sure the rca wires are on the sub output on the deck and if your deck supports it your crossover is set correctly. Also check the crossover switch on the amp and make sure its on low pass or lpf. And if there is a knob for lpf make sure its set to ~80hz.
Re: Hooked up Sub, power to amp, but no sound from sub. What's wrong?
Like said above it could be the gain or the hpf/lpf settings wrong, also check the subsonic filter settings. Also check the settigs on your deck itself if it has a subwoofer output setting.
Re: Hooked up Sub, power to amp, but no sound from sub. What's wrong?
Does your head unit have a menu to turn ON (Subwoofer output) the subwoofer? (Sorry Burnett I didn't see you had the same question asked)
As well, check the crossover settings with the amplifier.
Finally, what gauge wire are you running for the remote wire from the head unit (blue wire) to the amplifier?

Re: Hooked up Sub, power to amp, but no sound from sub. What's wrong?
thanks everyone for all of the suggestions. I figured it out with the help of a best buy install guy's suggestion. My sub is a double coil sub. So I hooked a wire from positive to negative around the sub and then a positive from sub to amp, and a negative from sub to amp.
