Trunk/Spolier Advice

3 Months ago had a chance at a GST, was a no go. Found a 1999 Eclipse GS. It has the standard 3pc wing and I've had a Turbo wing in my garage. I know about plugging the holes, and welding is the best option. I heard fiberglass is a good idea. Would a few layers of fiberglass under the holes, and then maybe 1-2 small pieces up top followed by bondo on top of it make a good and strong temporary cover for it? Instead of just using straight bondo to cover it up.

Re: Trunk/Spolier Advice

That will work fine, even as a permanent solution, but is a lot more work than just welding them shut and smoothing it out. If i were to do it that way.I would fiberglass the bottom, then put somthing in the hole to fill the void. Then put glass on top. Something like a thin peice of metal cut with the same circumference as the hole(maybe a dime, penny?). That way there would be no void in between the two peices of fiberglass.

Re: Trunk/Spolier Advice

as long as you bondo/fiberglass very good it should be fine.

either way you will need to repaint.

Re: Trunk/Spolier Advice

+1 for welding. Bondo (and even fiberglass) have a tendency to crack especially if it's in the area like near a door or a hatch. If you do use body fillers, remember to use as little of it as possible and prep the surface very good.
Think about using "Fiberhair" bondo instead of regular stuff since it has fiberglass mixed in and does not absorb moisture. A little harder to work it though.
