Leaky oil from crankshaft under boost.

Just as the title states, had the engine rebuilt about 2000 miles ago. Driven mildly by an adult.

The plastic cover over the crank has oil on it.

At first I thought it was the oil pan because that is where it flings it as i drive, especially under boost.

There is none on the timing belt, and everything in the lower timing cover looks very clean.

So my question is, what exactly is leaking? the crank seal?

Mods

I have balance shaft deletes.
7bolt/6bolt head
16g
525 yellow top injectors
Catch can with 2 welded ports into my VC running steel braids to the can. (never seems to get much oil)
act2600 clutch(new master and slave)
3 inch exhaust, FMIC CAD all the other walbro 255 all that other good stuff.

Car runs perfectly fine. Better than it did before the build. Even at WOT.

Just can't figure out where this oil is coming from and why it goes everywhere under WOT.

It looks to be under the crank pulley. but outside the timing cover? How is that even possible?

I do notice the oil pressures seems to be a tad bit lower than the last build, but not really noticeable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Leaky oil from crankshaft under boost.

There are several places oil could leak from behind the cover. Only way to know is pull the cover, clean it up, start it and watch for drips.

Re: Leaky oil from crankshaft under boost.

There is no oil on the timing belt, I took the top timing belt cover off, everything looks perfect and clean.

The oil looks as if it is coming from where you would shine a timing light on the pulley area.

Could something still be leaking from inside the lower timing belt cover causing it to leak out of the cover? I looked long and hard today and found no oil spitting or even one drop inside the lower cover when inspected with a flashlight.

Like I said car runs great, just under boost low or high, this thing squirts it all the way to the driver side axle.

Could have the guy that rebuilt the motor not plugged the balance shaft holes back? Or was lazy and didn't replace the seal?

Any ideas at all? I didn't have time to inspect further, I will this weekend.....I just want an idea of what to expect.

Re: Leaky oil from crankshaft under boost.

Are you positive its not your power steering pump?

Re: Leaky oil from crankshaft under boost.

It is def. oil, when I cleaned the oil pan and re sealed it I noticed the new oil I put in it was leaking. Before the break-in oil was leaking and it looked much darker....This new oil leaking is amber clear, just spewing.....

Whata' headache.

Re: Leaky oil from crankshaft under boost.

Ever since my rebuild, the inside of my timing cover will accumulate a dampness of oil. The leak is so small it wont do it at idle. Is it leaking to the point you have to add oil?

Re: Leaky oil from crankshaft under boost.

Like Sean said, remove the lower timing cover. Clean everything back up and put the Harmonic balancer back on and start the car and check it.

Could be the Front crank seal, Oil pump seal, Balance shaft block off plug seal or the front case seal leaking.

Re: Leaky oil from crankshaft under boost.

I had this problem once...the nut on the oil pump sprocket had backed off and was sitting on the bottom of my timing cover.
