Quick question on water pump and timing belt replacement.
I have a 95 Tsi and I am looking to replace the water pump and timing belt. To me, it seems like you have to take out the engine to replace the timing belt and water pump because everything is crammed. I was just wondering if anyone has had success and maybe some tips in replacing the water pump and timing belt with the engine in the car.
Re: Quick question on water pump and timing belt replacement.
I am excited to answer a question that I can answer!!!!
You can do the timing belt and water pump with the engine in the car. There is a Vfaq on the timing belt swap that covers that whole job. You should also change the balance shaft belt, tensioner, and pulleys while you are in there. There is a timing belt tool, cam sprocket tool, and pulley tool that you should get to make the job a lot easier. I have done it once for the first time and it took me about two days doing it on jackstands in a garage. Now, I think I could do it in one full day now that I know what I am doing for this job. Good luck.

Like everyone said, very doable in the car. Definitely remove the driver side motor mount and use a block of wood on the oil pan and jack her up a bit for some room. You do need to let it fall a bit to get the crank pulley off however.

A lot easier is a major understatement. I have done many timing belt jobs over the years for myself and friends and I will never change another timing belt with the enigine in the car again without using the tools.
