Hey everyone. Let me thank you in advance. OK so I blew my engine on my 96 eclipse gst. I decided to buy an engine from private seller. The engine was running good and sounded good. I took the engine from his car myself. Now I just finished installing the complete long block on my car and it won't start. Since the engine came from a 98 eclipse gst and mine is a 96 gst, do I have to change the computer aswell? Also, my car has never had a wire harness for the CAS, but this new engine from the 98 gst has a CAS on the passanger side of the head, but I have no harness to connect there. I tried looking this up but all I get is how to wire an1g cas into a 2g head. My case I need to know where I can wire a harness to connect the CAS. Could the cas not being connected by a problem for my car not starting also? Please help as I want to get my baby back on the road asap!!!
The cam angle sensor between a 96 and 98 is different. The 96 will have it's cam angle sensor under the intake cam gear where the 98 will be bolted to the passenger's side of the head.
Thanks a lot for the reply CoxAbele. I went through the two posts that you included but I was wondering if by any chance you knew how I can wire the cas. My car doesn't have a harness for the cas but all threats talk about modifying but say nothing about what wires to use if no harness connector is available.
Another question, if I just ad a 1g cas , do I need to change the ecu to a 97-99 ecu still or would I be able to leave the 96 ecu on the car? Car is all stock by the way.
The 1g cas and the 97-99 cas output the same signal. The 95-96 cas output a signal that is backwards from the others. Is there anything stopping you from removing your cas from the 96' and installing it on the 98' head? it would only take a swap of the intake cam gear and the sensor behind it and then everything will plug in. If you dont want to do that then you can use the 98' or 1g cas and swap your plug wires around, 1and 4 swap with 2 and 3 and it should start, however the injectors will still be out of sequence, some people live with it like that and some people swap the injector pins at the ecu connector so that it will be back in proper sequence.

Thank you very much bishilvr! Since you seem to know a lot about this I have a quick question for you. If I were to install a 1g CAS will it solve my problem? Also since the engine is from a 98 get but my car is a 96 get and my ecu is 96 as well would I need to swap ecu with a 98 ecu if I go the 1g CAS way? And would I need to change the plug wires and injectors? Thanks in advance for all the help...
To use the 1g cas you would have to have a 97'-99' ecu, so yes a 98' ecu would work fine with the 1g cas. The 1g cas wont work with the 96' ecu unless you switch the plug wires around and optionally the injector pins. With the 98' ecu and a 1g cas you wouldnt have to switch anything.

OK thanks a lot. Well I just swapped a 98 ecu on the car and installed a 1G CAS. Now I have an issue. I'm not getting any spark. I double checked and I wired everything correctly. What can possibly be my issue?
Hey guys OK so after changing engine and ecu and adding a 1g CAS my car finally cranks. But it doesn't start unless I pump the accelerator while cranking but as soon as I stop pumping the accelerator, the car turns off. Worse thing is that in have no trouble code but the light is working because it shows when I turn the key.
I have a 98 ecu with a 98 engine that I put into my 96 gst. I tried to align the two little lines on the CAS and I put them looking towards the radiator.
