Auto Transmission Flush -- DIY?

On my old Chrysler minivan, you could flush the auto trans by disconnecting the inlet hose to the cooler in the radiator and diverting it to a bucket. You put it on jackstands, started the car, put it in drive and poured new ATF into the dipstick hole as the old stuff pumped out into the bucket. After running 9 quarts through all of the fluid was replaced.

Is there any reason this wouldn't work with my 2.4 '97 GS Spyder? The trans cooler is right in the front of the car behind the small air intake just to the outside of the fog light on the drivers side. The inlet/outlet lines are accessible. I had the dealer I knew and trusted flush it at 87,000 miles, and at every fifth oil change I do a drain and fill, but I'm at 153,000 miles and would really like to flush it again, but I'm not confident in the dealer where I live now.
