They have really good specs, but cost so much less than other brands. How come?

They are made in Japan, like Kumho's

I've got the ZIEX 502's, which seem to be a lot better than the no-names I had on the car before. The only other brand I've ever had on my other laser were goodyear rs-a's.

They seem to be okay, at the least they have a cool tread pattern

The general opinion is that Jap tires aren't as good as the American made

Uh, Kumho's are Korean, not Japanese.

I haven't had any personal experience with Falkens, although they're pretty much a cheaper tire made to compete with the likes of Nitto and such (Which are AWFUL). Also haven't really heard too much about them either. I might try a set just to burn off on autocross and time trials...

I happen to dissagree with the "general" opinion. The vast majority of American tires below 200 dollars a piece are absolute crap. Continental? Goodyear? Bleeeeech. Absolute ASS on track, even with my POS 1990 GS.

If you want confidence that you're getting an EXCELLENT price/performance, go with some nice Yokohama AVS Sports if you want a nice tire in the sub 200 dollar a piece range. If you want to go a little cheaper, go for Dunlop. Both of those have a very good reputation.

I've decided to go with Falkens. Yokos and some of the other brands are too expensive for me.

They are a pretty good tire but there are better ones out there. The bad thing about them is that they tend to be very soft so you will not get a lot of life out of them.

Soft tires are good tires!!! I run Yokohama AVS Intermediates as my street tires and they have a treadwear of 160. But they grip well...

My friend has the new Azenis tire on his blown Type R and he loves 'em,much better than the Paradas he just wore out. Yeah,they will wear fast but they are only $100 a tire for the 215/45/16 size. I might getr them when my Kumhos wear out. I don't mind if they wear fast,i only put around 8000 miles a year on my car so they should last almost years,maybe.
