1g FWD Auto vs Manual from a Roll?

I searched it but couldn't find anything on this topic, but what i want is a car that doesn't have to be excellent from a stop (got a different car for that ;) ) but i want it to be my daily beater/driver that i can have fun on the highway with (where i spend 90% of my driving time).

So I was wondering how a auto 1st gen dsm would do from a roll against a manual 1g if they had about the same crank HP, like around 250 or 300.
I assume that the manual would have a little advantage, but i really don't know enough to know since there's a lot of variables and such.

The reason i ask is because i found a nice auto fwd turbo laser for pretty cheap.

Thanks

Eric

My car used to be automatic tranny. I converted to manual. I recieved instant horspower, speed, and fun. Go manual. Enough said.
Oh P.S. dont buy the auto turbo they used smaller turbo the 13g. Buy an awd turbo 1 gen. Or for gas mileage fwd manual turbo first gen. They have the 14b turbo wich is larger.
Who cares? If its slower that just means you should make more power.
MTX will be in front , ATX tranny is way heavier and has more power loss
I would pick it up if it was very cheap. Auto's are severly hated upon in the dsm community for no apparent reason. Yes the fastest dsm's are all 5 speeds but they can shift faster than you can blink. With an auto, you'll never have to worry about a blown clutch, leaking slave or master, grinding gears, missing a shift or launching wrong. Not to mention no more broken rears in an awd car (no driveline shock). Now with button shifting and high stalls, an auto car is almost more fun than a 5 speed.

Amen! But i think it's alot more fun. :D
yeah id definently prefer 5 spd but this one was going for $350 which is too cheap to pass up. so i got it as a beater to throw around and keep mainly stock accept for free mods and the cheapest mods i can do.

My 5.0 is decent up top it can hang with most slightly modded ls1 around here up top (i kill all of them from a stop (almost all of them)), I just want a highway car/DD which a mustang is definently not. so i plan to fix this lazer up a little and sell it and buy a turbo 5 speed or maby ill try to get a higher stall torque converter for this thing, its only got 121,000 miles and runs pretty good.

how would a 3000 rpm stall do against a 5 speed?
