6bolt/7bolt Oil pump differences

850 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  OWGTI
I know that the oil passages and some bolt holes are different (thanks RRE). However my question is this. Are there any differences on part where the oil pickup tube attaches to the oil pump between a 6bolt and a 7bolt?

The reason that I am asking is I recently got a new oil pump for my rebuild and I can not get it to bolt up. On the new pump there are (approximately) 5 bolts that bolt it to the front cover. On my old one there are (again approximately) 4 bolts and 1 counter sunken screw. On the original pump the screw is what allows it to set right beside the main cap. On the new pump one of the bolts hits the cap and will not allow the front cover to bolt up at all.

I know I should be able to match the part number however I do not have those part number but I am working on it.

Only the 2g's have the sunken screw...the 1st gens are all bolts. If somehow you have a 2g with all bolts, you can drill the hole and use the sunken screw if you're careful.
Just to give this thread a conclusion.

The pump turned out to be for a 6 bolt. I do not feel like doing the reverse of RREs instructions to get it to work on my 7 bolt. I believe that if someone had the time, money and tools that it could be done but to me its just not worth it.

Totally wrong.

All 92.5+ 1st gen 7 bolts ALSO have that screw instead of a bolt.

Also, front cases are completely different between 6 bolts and 7 bolts. All 7 bolt front cases from 92.5+ are the same exact part.
