I had a 90 eclipes auto trans given to me, but I don"t think it will work or will it? it has 2 extra wires and most of the plugs are different.

both cars are 2.0L auto NT

I am having this same issue, only I need to put a 90 1.8 auto tranny into a 93 1.8 auto. I also noticed that all the connectors are different except for 2 of them. The number of wires for each connector are all still the same, but the connectors themselves are different.

Is it possible to cut and splice and make this tranny work? I had a hard enough time finding an auto tranny for a 1.8 as it was, I can't imagine trying to find one for just a 93. Plus my girlfriend about killed me when I told her I didn't think it would work(it's her car).

Anybody have any thoughts?

Josh
I have been doing some searching on this and what i come up with is the 91-94 trans can be made to work the 90 is diffrent all together.

Sorry if I am wrong pls let me know

Wow that sucks. I guess I'm looking for another tranny.

I did something similiar. I believe it was a 90 trans into a 93.

The harness and conectors you are talking about were able to be swapped. The shifter on the trans unbolted and was swapped over. We had some extra wires in the front that didnt mate so we just cut them and spliced them together. It ran I swear :)
I have 2 extra wires but where they go and what they control i have no idea is there any wiring diagrams form year to year? If so I could probly make it work.

Thanks Jim

Ya Idk I have a few wires not connected on my 93 car with 91 trans both awd and it runs fine no problems tranny shifts like new
Ok thats exactly what I needed to hear. At least now I know that with a little creativity I can get it to work.

Thanks guys, you are what make DSMTalk great!

I really wish you all good luck. The thing that unbolts for the shifter linkage is called a Inhibitor switch. from my researching the onlything diff is the one inhibitor switch is square and other one is a oval kinda shape. I had the oval kinda shape one on the tranny and square one on my car and i cut both and tried to splash the wires together by color coding, well their not color coded the same and when i got everything done and hook up battery the starter would run constantly. i then bought another inhibitor switch and the bottom was made different and it wouldn't work. so I said the heck with it and got a parts car and done an AT/MT swap. Took me 2 full days.

Good luck
I am going to be doing the same thing AT to MT Swap. When looking for a other AT trans I came a cross a hole 93 eclipse parts car for A $100.
