I've heard that the 2G awd mt will direct bolt in to a 92.
Is this correct?

No it wont work because the 2g trannies have 3 motor mounts and 1gs only have 1. :D
yes, it WILL work. the transmission mounts which are on 2g's are simply taken off, using the mount from your 1st gen transmission. it will bolt right on to the 2g trans. The linkages need to be fanagled a bit where they meet the shift rails on the trans. housing. The starter backing plate is different, a 2g one will work, or you can elongate the holes in your 1g plate due to the 2g transmission mounting the starter in a slightly different location.
Alright. What are the benefits of using a 2g transmission?

stronger internals. 97-up had double synchros 1/2. 23 spline xfer case. gears designed differently. how often do you see a 2g transmission break?
Would I need a 2g transfer case also? Currently a 92.
Will my F.axles fit?
Rear gear ratio the same?
2g plate will fit a 6 bolt?
Should I get 2g shifter and cables or fabricate cable mount?
I say an engine bay picture of a newer DSM, I remember the timing belt on the right side of car, am I nuts?

No. Your 92 awd should have a 23 spline transfercase.

No they will not. You will need to purchase both side for most likely a 1g awd.

I already have 1G axles, I don't understand.
the axles are the same. I am sure he mistakenly thought you said fwd axles.

A 2g awd tranny will bolt into a 1g, but a 1g awd tranny will not bolt into a 2g.

Rob
yea the 2g tanny can go into a 1g car. a 1g tranny will NOT go into a 2g car.

thats fwd and awd cars
