A/T to M/T

The A/T forum wasn't helpful. So I'm asking you guys. I've searched this site as well as other DSM forum websites for info about a 99 gst tranny swap. I just want to know where the best place to find a reliable m/t for a reasonable price, and a general price range for the total cost. And are there different parts or is there a differnet kind of transmission for a turbo fwd?

you could check ebay, you can find some good deals there, other than that I think you'll pay about $500 low to 1400 high for a good reliable transmission, if that's not the price range your looking for you may want to wait and buy a 5spd because there's alot more work involved than changing the tranny, good luck to you though, anyone know the exact compatible transmissions for his car? that would help us out a bit.

I want to get a 5-spd. Would junkyards be a good place to look or are those too questionable?
Junkyards are a lot like buying a used item from anyone else. There will be some luck involved as you can never really know how the previous owner treated the box. That being said, if you can find a low milage unit that looks to be in good shape, then you should score it if it price is right. Also, you could try to find a really cheap one, and send it to a place like TRE or Shepracing to have them rebuild it for you. It would cost more to go that route, but at least you wouldn't have to worry about it again.

Also, don't let what was posted above intimidate you, the swap isn't as difficult as it is being made to sound.
Is this tranny strong enough for a turbo?

Another question, would a 1G turbo tranny fit on a 2g(a 99, if that matters)?
Yeah I'm looking for 99GSTdsm's exact questions. What's invlovled, what prices/ parts are needed, etc. Thanks guys.
I don't know, that transmission that you posted from ebay says it's for 95 to 2004 eclipses, the 2000 - 2004 engines are completely different, I would call them and ask them for EXACTLY what you need and see if they have it, they seem to have a good warranty and offer a great price on rebuilt transmissions so that would be my first choice.
In my last post I said that the a/t to 5spd swap is hard and complicated, well if you like your car and want to keep it just change it a little that's fine just make a list of everything you will need, (pedals, tranny, cables, etc.) and search for them, then find a quote for the swap and a total cost and time, then see if you want to do it or not, James.
