1260 Views 24 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  90LaserSleeper
This is my first post so dont laugh. I was just going to see if anyone else had the same luck i did. I put an Awd turbo on my Fwd laser and saw an amazing difference in power. Did anyone else have the same luck?

Is your lazer an auto? Thats the only 1g that had a different turbo.

Congrats on the upgrade to a 14b. You should have save you money because now you tasted the power and will crave more. :D
the only difference between the 90-94 turbo cars was a 13g on an auto and a 14b on a manual.
He could have had a bad turbo and recieved a better one...

True, or a leak that was "accidentally fixed".

I dont know what happened but i love it
no, my car isnt automatic either
Well, unless the previous owner swapped something around you have the same turbo which leads us to believe that your previous turbo was not in good shape.
WAIT!? Did you put any stickers on in the meantime?
That would explain the difference in power...

haha!

I don't think they even made an auto 90 Laser. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Damm, why didn't i think of that!^he's right,it had to be the sticker.:p,you probably had a bad turbo like twisted said.welcome to the dsmworld mi friend.

I agree. It falls under I installed spitfire spark plugs and my car runs great. It is not so much as the spitfires as the old plugs were worn
Unless someone just threw a 13b on there to replace a bad 14b like a cheap ass.
Then when he replaced it again, he went to a better unit.
Chances were, your shit was crap. Or gaskets leaking, and now it feels twice as good because your 100%. Still, I'm glad it better!
the thing ive been hearing is that because it is off an awd it will spool faster so it gives the impression of having more power. Mine spools at about 1800 rpm and my buddy who has and automatic turbo eclipse spools at 2200rpm does mine spooling at this rpm sound right to everyone??
A 14B is a 14B. A turbo from a manual car is not going to spool faster than if took a 14B off of an automatic car. Auto did not come with 14Bs though they came with 13Gs though so the argument is pretty pointless.

I have no experience with autos, never owned one, but I have read on here that they will spool the same turbo slightly slower.
I have a ported head with over size valves, better flowing exhaust manifold, better flowing o2... and I spool as soon as I hit the go pedal.
But not 2200 rpm. You're on crack.
It may START, spooling by 2200... but theres no way your at full boost.
Maybe if it was a 2.4L
Or a 2.3L stroker.
On a stock car you're not making peak power until 4k. maybe 5k.
2g will come on sooner.

Full spool is probably around 3k or higher.
I don't know, maybe if you're only running 10-12 psi....
I can get to 17+ by 3K on a 14b.
But my friends 2g AWD, stock, comes on later than that.
I think you maybe should check again. If you're going by that gauge in the dash this is a moot point.

AWD turbo  whats that? There's no such thing! BUT i def could see a shop using that line on someone :D

I believe '91 was the 1st year dsm's offered a turbo A/T so 91 -94 FWD and AWD A/T's came with the same 13g turbo. 13g spools at lower rpms and spool time to full boost is faster which = better turbo rush :) BOOYAH! (different cams for A/T and M/T turbo models. A/T cams are better for low-end business)

90-94 turbo M/T's all came with 14b's whether FWD or AWD. 95-99's all came with t25 turbos whether A/T, M/T, FWD, or AWD.
the 13g has a smaller compressor housing then the 14b, 13g td04h 14b td05h, most of you already know this, the main reason why this turbo spools later is because the manifold outlet is smaller, if ported it should spool quicker, but enough of that, congrats on your turbo, by the way, there is a chance that the awd turbocharger you picked up is a 16g or 18g, you can tell by looking at the impeller fins on the intake side of the turbo, if the fins are ALL equally spaced then it is most likely a 14b, if the fins are in groups of two then it is probably a 16g, any idea what the nubers where of your old turbo? what's on your newer one? then we can know for sure instead of hearing a bunch of guesses :D xongrats on the turbo, man I miss boost :(
