Boost gauge doesn't zero!

954 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  toutsuu
The Autometer Ultralight gauge I've had 6 months doesn't zero when I shut the car off. It shows 6-8 hg/in when off. I get 20 Hg/In at idle, about 28 HG/In at decel, and am boosting to about 11-12 psi. Is there a way I can fix/calibrate the gauge? I don't like wondering if I'm getting an accurate boost reading!!

Sorry...As great as Autometer's are for the money, you are looking at one of the sad side-effects of the proven gauges...It's a common problem with these...As far as I know, it's a goner :(
I have the same problem with mine, I just got an email response from them and this is what it said...

Hello.

repair/replace it for you. Please send to:

p.s.-I spoke with them on the phone and they said when I send it in they will just swap it out for a working one, I am assuming free of charge for this problem.

My question for you selser is what was it showing before you noticed it wasn't zeroing. I was always boost 12psi and then it started showing less and less and now it shows 7 and that is when I noticed it was -5 when off.
i get like 2 hg/in of vacuum when i turn off my car. Is this Normal?

It used to boost to 14psi, now its about 10. I have been told that 2 InHg is = to 1psi. I'll have to contact Autometer about sending it in....I've only had it 7mos so it should be covered. The car is put away for the winter anyways so.....

No, there should not be any vacuum if the motor isn't even running. Your guage is hooped as well.
If you call them they will just tell you to send it in like they told me. Save yourself some time and just do what those instuctions said, mail it in along with your information and the problem.
I sent my broken Phantom boost gauge back to Autometer. It was stuck reading 5vac. About a week later I got a new one free of charge.
How did you pack it, or doesn't it matter if it's broken anyways? I still need to send one in but first I need to scrounge up 5 bucks for the shipping, I keep spending all my money on gas to go cruising :
I found the smallest box I could at work. Wrapped the gauge in some bubble wrap and sent it first class to the address Autometer gave me. It only cost me about $1.25 to send.
