broken shift linkage?

uh well...it is 5 in the morning and i just got back home from taking my car for a drive...i didnt get too far...i came to a stop and when it was time to go i shifted into first as always and dropped it into second and the engine revs but im not going any faster...so i pull off and try to get to my shift linkage connectors on the transmission but the battery was in the way and i knew the tray had to come out so i figured i would try and move it...well it goes into first fine and i tried second and it seems kinda 'spongy' going down and it finally goes into gear once its all the way down 3rd gear is no problem...4th gear is the same as 2ns and 5th gear is fine...i try reverse and its like 2ns and 4th gear...could this be a broken shift linkage?...if it were broken wouldnt it not be able to go into gear?...im waiting for some daylight so i can go work on it but it would help to get some opinions from you guys...thanks in advance

Had the same problem , look where the linkage are on the tranny, where they are atteched with the C-clip on the bracket.

Had the same problem no 2nd gear and it would rev freely , thats was the culprit

You can get a used pair through misubishi graveyard for around 50 dollars. The dealer will have them along with dsmmotorsports.com.
thanks...i took a look at it and there were no clips LOL...i found one laying on the tranny and i tried putting it on both linkages to see if on was damage and one fit normally but the second one doesnt fit too well...i put it on and shifted gears and it shifted fine but when i looked at the clip it was upside-down because theres no tension...are the two shift linkages supposed to be identical?...and where can i get one of those clips..you think autozone or oreilys has them?...thanks for the help and the pic...much appreciation...im starting to like the forums more and more :D
Ok, i just went and inspected mine and the only part thats messed up on mine is the little black rubber boot, it wont provide tension so the linkage just kinda squirms around, is there any way to fix this fast and easy or should i just find a whole new linkage?
i would suggest buying a whole new linkage...they arent very expensive just make sure they are in good condition if you get them from a junkyard
