carbon fiber hood question

578 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  slow_dsm
does anyone know if a carbon fiber hood that has small scratches on it will affect it's durability or anything at all? what about if i paint it?

and does anyone know if there are any places, or if it's even possible, to patch holes in a cf hood that has hood pins in it already, but i want to take the hood pins out and just have the holes filled somehow? if i cant have them filled, then am i able to just buy different kinds of hoodpins to my liking?

Scratches in the clear coat do nothing to the durability of the hood.

You cannot patch a cf hood and have it be undetectable. The hood is a sheet of woven carbon fiber. You cannot patch into that sheet once it is cut. You can patch over it and reclear but it will be noticable.
well, you will want to have hood pins in the new hood, since CF hood latches are not all that great...Just keep the pins in, they can't look that bad

i agree......the latches on a cf hood are not awsome......stick with the pins
The small scratches will not weaken it. You can take it to a good body shop and they can sand it lightly and respray it and they will be gone. I have seen many people do this. Also leave the hood pins. I'm sure you can find a set you like somewhere.
