Me and a friend were working on his DSM, he has a 97 GST with a jap spec 6bolt motor. Car just won't start properly when cold, takes like 40 attempts to get it running. Once it is warm, it runs just fine, and can restart on a single crank.

He has the code for the Coolant temperature sensor. We checked the sensor and it works fine, checked connectors, even checked continuity to the ECU, and it also is fine. We replaced the sensor and no go either. We even swapped ECU's.

Does anyone know of anything that could be wrong that would set that code and prevent the engine from starting when cold?

You've replace the sensor and tried a different ECU. The only thing left is the wire in between.

Already tested that. Wiring is good to the ECU. I was looking at the DSM manual and it shows that one pin of the sensor goes straight to the ECU, but the second goes to a bunch of other things. Is it possible that something else is affecting the operation of the sensor?
