I tore down my engine after blowing the head gasket and noticed my crank was scratched pretty badly. I bought another crank from a guy on the trader that was suppoed to be perfect and it was even worse. To get to the point, I now have 3 cranks and took them to the machine shop for an opinion. He said the 2 I bought (from guys on the trader) definately need to be turned, but he might be able to polish the original. I called today and it's ready, but he said that it is almost a thousandth (> .001) under spec on the mains only (rod journals turned out fine). He told me that most high performance engines want loose tolerances here and it should be fine in my race motor. However, I don't want to drive for only 5k miles and need new main bearings. Any opinions?
