the brakes are still on so its burning alotta gas to drive and i have work tonight(pizza driver)
i wouldnt drive it much, your gonna F*** up your drums and pads. i dont believe theres any "water" to deal with. your ebrake is a cable, theres nothing hydrolic about it. crawl under the car and there should be a cable coming out from the center consol. check to see if its kinked, cut, stuck, whatever. if theres nothing wrong check inside the car under the center consol where the lever is i think there is an adjustment there. you can loosin or tightin the cable there. if that doesnt work, take off the wheel and the drum housing and find out whats jamming in there. sux that its cold out, i hate doing that stuff in the freezn cold. good luck, hope u can make it to work.
Our e-brake cables often freeze (because water gets in the line). Your best option is to limp the car to some indoor garage, wait for it to thaw and release, and then not use it again this winter or until the cables are replaced.

Just an FYI:
All 1G cars were 4 wheel disc, none came with drums. I know some cars, late model Celicas for example, even with 4 wheel discs have a tiny drum that acts as a parking brake. However 1G DSMs just lock the calipers when using the parking brake.

Like Jtoby said, your best bet is to get it somewhere warm and let it thaw out.
Did anyone address the issue that your parking brake switch may be stuck?

If there is no tension when you pull the handle, then it isn't the switch.

Oh, I thought he meant there was no tension on the brakes.
my car has done this as well...it's kind fun being im fwd and the ground is slick (in parking lots) usually i either drive it 20ft and if they dont come loose, ill keep the ebrake down and let them thaw...
I just left it down...... Friday night after working for awhile the Brake light went off and it had tension again.........lol funny how shit fixes itself....
You should look into what is making it keep the tension, so it does not happen again.
