I'm about to buy a 1995 TSi AWD for $2000... here's the description of the car:

"this car is in great conditon interior and exterior, it has grey leather interior, leather is in awsome shape, no rips very clean, power everything, body is in great condition for the age, it has been garaged while i owned it, it is the all wheel drive turbo model, it has a 6 bolt motor in it, its 5 speed, also included is the 97 eclipse gs wheels, the timing jumped on this car and needs head work, the head is currently off the vehicle and every hose and wire harness is labled for the reinstallation, the valves in the head are bent, and that looks like all that is wrong with it, timing jumped on start up, i just don't ahve the time for this car."

My question is... how much would you estimate this would cost to fix, and what are you guys' opinions on the whole deal?

I would say it could very well be a good deal. Find out exactly what it needs, if its just valves you could order them from Slowboy and it would be about $100 for the intake and exhaust as a set.

So how long do you suppose it would take to replace the valves? The head is already off of it, and everything's prepared to work on, everything's labeled for reconstruction, etc... the car's in awesome shape, perfect interior, no dents or rust on the exterior.

You shouldn't buy it.. just tell me where it is and i'll take good care of it. It's a terrible deal. it will take over 3 hours to fix. don't do it.

you can get a rebuilt head from clearwater cyl head for under 300 buck or you could just get new valves. I would have the head checked and then replace the valves and go with better springs as this is the perfect time to upgrade

So... it'd be quite a good deal then? Assuming that the valves are the only thing that needs replaced? Or do other people have opinions on it as well?

Your about 30 minutes up the road from us, bring the head to us and I can give you a free estimate on the spot and take you for a quick tour of the machine shop!

Dude... you probably just provided the deciding factor in whether or not I get the car (My parents needed to be swayed and they said that they didn't want me throwing money away by ending up having this car not work). I have a 1992 Laser RS with a shot tranny that has a perfectly in tact engine... could we possibly use any of the parts (such as the valves) from it?

HOLY SHIT, SLOWBOY RACING IS IN INDIANA!!! I'm the luckiest guy in the freaking world. This just dawned on me today thanks to the guy above me there. Do you have any rough estimate at this time of how much you would expect it to cost?

Without seeing the head, I would hate to give you a bad estimate. If you get a chance, load it up and bring it on down.

Well, the problem is that I haven't bought it yet... I could get pictures of the head though from the guy who's selling it if that'd help

Use the whole head from the Laser, and you won't need to spend too much extra money....that'll keep your parents happy. Buy the car and use the Laser's head. But if you have a lil extra $, go down and see Mike at Slowboy, he'll hook u up.

well, my parents waited too long because they want my life to suck and the car was sold... so here I am, with no car still, and QUITE pissed off. If anyone wants to sell me a 95-99 GSX for like $3500 around the Pennsylvania area, be my freaking guest...
