First Time Doing MCCC - Shop VAC, Hand Pump, Baster?

727 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  dsm6yrs
How do I suck up the excess fluid and gunk? Should I buy a 1hp or 2hp Shop Vac? Do I need something more powerful than that? Is a hand pump a good option, and, if so, where can I find one? My local Walmart has the Shop Vac but no hand pumps. What is this I hear about using a turkey baster? Is it used by itself or as an extension to a Shop Vac or other sort of pump? TIA for any help! :)

I found a suction gun at Checker Auto Parts (Kragen Auto Parts). It is $10, and it looks as though it will do the job nicely.
A small shop vac will do the job.
Depending how much you do, there might not be able left on the pistons. I did a whole can to every cylinder before and there was some left in the morning. But I sprayed the tops of the pistons on the motor on the stand and it didnt stay too long.

If you have your old fuel pump laying around, you rig that to run off the battery and pump the stuff into a bucket.

haha..thats a pretty cool idea..:D
For $10, the suction gun worked very well. I got a vacuum hose reducer/connector and connected a smaller hose to the clear, large diameter hose that came with the suction gun; then, I wrapped the hoses and connector with electrical tape. With the smaller hose attached, I was able to easily feed it down into the spark plug holes. This may be a nice alternative to a shop vac some of you. :)
