FMIC Sizing questions

757 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  DRW
I run just a small 16g turbo. So I dont need anything too huge as far as a FMIC goes. I had bought a Streetimports core around 2 years ago, it was a 24x12x3

Plain and simple, it wont fit without removing the AC, or ditching the front bumper completely. This is not something i'm willing to do, so I'm going to buy a smaller core. My question is, How small do I need to get? What are some of the sizes people have installed without having to ditch the actual bumper?

My intake track is all torn apart at the moment, I'm not puting the stock stuff back in, and all i'm waiting for is parts for the upgrade. I've searched and searched and cant quite get the answer i'm looking for. Please help!

a supra sidemount IC would be fine for a small 16g
I plan to go larger some day with a 20g or so. I'de rather have the piping for a FMIC in place already, instead of having to do it twice. Also i've put in a 2g mas, intake pipe, and k&n. It covers the sidemount outlet. So to stay with a sidemount setup, i've got to redo my brand new intake.
I imagine like a 25x7x3 would fit, you might have to cut a little bumper support. Mines being shipped to I can let ya know how it goes
I had a 24x12x3 and the problem was that it was too wide to fit between the AC parts that are mounted up in there.
i have the "small" pte core with my 16g and it works very well, didnt have to ditch or even trim the bumbper.
An ebay special of the 18X6x3 variety would probably even work, or an EvoVIII fmic.

I've got the extremepsi (SBR/Kinetic) street fmic that I used with my e3b16g... good setup.
If you don't plan on ever upgrading past a 16g turbo. Those JR intercoolers you see on ebay are just fine for that use. Plus they are relatively cheap too.

What a coincidence, I have a JR 24x6x3.5 FMIC and a E3 16G on my Laser. It's a nice combination. I didn't have to trim the bumper at all, though I did trim the plastic bumper cover a little bit. You can find them at www.Extremeintercoolers.com or on Ebay.
