fuel cut off?

846 Views 12 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  AWD_4g63
okay, so i bought a boost controller from turbo smart....had up and the stock gauge still works, so the guage was maxin out at 14, obviously, i wanted 15psi, but anyhow, i was in third gear and punched.....the boost gauge maxed out and the rpm's were still going up untill about 4000rpm,s the car jerked really hard. now first i thought i blew the motor or turbo or maybe a vaccuum line came off, but then i thought it could be the fuel cut off, since i didnt know exactly how high the boost was, and how accurate the gauge was....the car didnt shut off, but i let off the gas really fast, what could this have been.....and would the turbo blow before the fco??

LISTEN, how many times are we going to have to go through this? Do research before you start slapping parts on your car. Yes, Ide say you hit fuel cut. How many times are we(dsmtalk non-noobs) going to have to tell you kids that the stock gauge is NOT accurate, and should NOT be used to manage your boost pressure. Im sure you have NO way of datalogging either, so Im sure the motor didnt like your right foot frendzy at all. My suggestion to you would be to put the BCS back on until you can get an actual boost guage, and a logger. Slapping parts on your car without knowing the cars response will KILL your motor. Im just tired a people not reading the rules, and not using the search button. There are so many threads out there that have been aswered by DSM gods, but people are to lazy to use the seach button, or heck just do some plain research. Now Im sure you think I am a jerk, but there has been such an influx of ignorance on here. Im really not an idiot, people need to use their brain!

Next time the car WILL shut off because you melted a hole in your pistons.

Don't expect anyone to answer nicely to your question though...If you HAD done your research you would've known it wasn't smart to install the bc first b/c the stock boost gauge is just a little less useful than a narrowband a/f ratio gauge

You probably did hit fuel cut off, or possibly overboosted enough to pop a hose or do some real engine damage...You don't ever want to take the risk of going WOT w. out knowing how much boost you are running at....

So don't think someone is just going to politely tell you an answer without giving you the NOOB SEARCH RESEARCH VFAQ DONT BE AN IDIOT lecture first

Sorry for trying to prevent the forum from turning into DSMt00ners.
not everyone knows everything...i did my research, didnt recieve the gauges yet, so i couldnt install them.....any way the only question i wanted an answer to was what comes first, cut off or blown turbo...i didnt ask for someone to be a dick.....
the reason nobody is answering dick is you are not asking a very smart question. If the blown turbo came first there wouldnt be fuel cut.
A turbo can blow first at any boost depending on what condition the turbo is in..Who just turns the boost up without a gauge?..You might as well weld the wastegate shut and do some top speed pulls..

What he said. I can't believe that someone could start modding a DSM without even knowing the boost gauge is inaccurate. I hope you enjoy working on cars b/c it sounds like you're going to need it  .
ok not to hammer anymore than hes already been hit but... you "say" you have gauges ordered just not here yet. so why did you just install the MBC, why no just run off the stock BCS and WAIT for the gauges to arrive then hook it all up at once, so that way you dont have the possibility of blowing her up. Just some words of advice go back to stock untill you get your gauges use RRE's upgrade path..read, read, read umm did i mension READ posts. get the correct parts for the correct upgrades and make proper power. your car will love you a million times better for it. ohh and by the way that WAS fuel cut ;)

Agreed w. the rest of the post, but I happen think the RRE upgrade path is a little outdated...I usually tell people to go off the dsmtuners stage 1/2 path...At least to me it makes a little more sense
